Another King alum reached out and wanted to share their post-King journey...and this one has built a career out of IB!
Amy (Ausman) Clerides graduated in '86 and studied elementary education with a minor in French at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She spent 3 years teaching at Cherokee Heights Middle School in Madison, moved to Connecticut and taught middle school math for 4 years, completed a Masters in Education at Southern Connecticut State University. As if teaching wasn't enough, the "big adventure" began in 1998 when she moved with her husband to his home country of Cyprus!
Where is Cyprus? It's a beautiful island in the eastern Mediterranean. She taught at the American International School of Cyprus (AISC), completed a second Masters in Educational Leadership at Lehigh University, and has served as the K-12 Principal of AISC for more than a decade. Cyprus has been a great place to raise her family. Amy’s youngest son is in grade 11 at her school while her second son is studying in the Netherlands and her oldest daughter is working in Brussels.
Amy attended King for for both middle and high school and has great memories of talented and brilliant classmates and good friends, dynamic and committed teachers, forensics team weekend tournaments, going to the state championships in Madison to cheer on the 1984 basketball team, a junior year trip to France, and so much more. Taking IB courses at King at a time when it seemed that nobody really knew what IB was makes her current principalship at an IB World School that much more meaningful.
“My experience at King made me a life-long learner and gave me a solid foundation as a global citizen. I look back on my 7 years in that beautiful building surrounded by inspiring people with great fondness and gratitude.”

Rufus King family,
Maybe you remember hearing about The Shop in 310, two teachers (including King alum Mr. LeFlore) who build community and confidence in our young people by providing free haircuts after school. Their positive impact on our community has been featured on TV and in publications.
Check out this article about The Shop in 310 featuring Marquette alum and King teacher Mr. Johnson.

MCTS has been kind enough to donate bus tickets so that young people can come after school and still get home. If you'd also like to donate to The Shop in 310, check out their Amazon wish list.
