I have a bachelor’s degree in English and Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and I currently work as a digital marketing and communications specialist. It feels like just yesterday I was knee-deep in the college application process: gathering letters of rec, putting together my lists of extracurriculars and volunteer experience, and, of course, tackling the Common App ess
ay and personal statement prompts. While I have always enjoyed writing, both creative and academic - I even considered applying to the University of Chicago solely because the essay prompts looked fun - I understand that this isn’t the case for everybody, which is why I’m offering my assistance in making the college application process a little less daunting. At UW-Madison, I spent three years working as an undergraduate Writing Fellow, where I was assigned to a different class every semester and helped students with their drafts of assigned papers and projects, addressing concerns from local (spelling and grammar, fine-tuning analysis) to global (crafting a thesis and an outline, brainstorming ideas, reworking paragraphs, etc.). Because of this experience, I’ve become adept at organizing personalized, individual conferences for students of varying backgrounds and writing abilities; during these conferences, I always made a point of celebrating my students’ strengths and never judging them for whatever challenges they had with the assignments. I prided myself on never doing my students’ work for them, but rather empowering them throughout the process so they were confident in their own voices and ideas. I'm offering a) one hourly session ($75), which entails assistance with filling out the Common App, college essay / personal statement brainstorming, or college essay / personal statement draft review, or b) three hourly sessions ($200), consisting of one brainstorming session, one session to review the first drafts, and one session to review the final drafts. Please feel free to reach out at 414-690-9315 or email me at [email protected]; I’m happy to answer any questions you may have!
