Last week, I had the chance to welcome students from White Deer Elementary to the Capitol. Students were there as part of the PA Statewide Afterschool/Youth Development Network visit to Harrisburg.

Their mission is to promote sustainable, high-quality out-of-school time (OST) youth development programs through advocacy and capacity building to enhance the welfare of Pennsylvania’s children, youth and families. It was great to meet these wonderful students and show them around my office.

Students from White Deer STEAMS recently made their voices heard at the state capitol during PSAYDN Awareness and Action Day. Students met with State Representative Mike Stender, and later explored the impact of their afterschool program with Maggie Karpinski and Cindy Urban from Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver's office. Naturally, no visit to Harrisburg is complete without a tour of the Capitol. Kudos to these students for their hard work and success throughout the year.

White Deer STEAMS students created some sidewalk chalk artwork for the teachers to honor them for Teacher Appreciation Week!

Shamokin STEAMS students applied their coding skills to develop and learn with Ozobots during their STEM activity period. Dr. Kurelja, Executive Director of CSIU, paid a visit to the program, where the students provided a hands-on demonstration.

Thank you to Eric from Susquehanna University for leading our spring parent event at White Deer STEAMS. Eric talked with students about the water cycle, condensation, and weather conditions. Afterwards, the students created their own cloud in a jar. Thank you to all of the family members that came out to support the program!

Thank you Baugher STEAMS parents and families for another amazing open house event! Parents worked alongside their children building catapults, launching objects, and measuring the results. At the end of the day, students received summer fun bags from Bucknell University and the Milton Library.
