LOVE MONTH is almost here!

I’ve been prepping all of our crafts & lessons for the month of February. It’s easy to get caught up in all the cute food ideas, crafts, candy, flowers - you know the commercialized hype. Hear me loud & clear - I’m not saying those things are bad but I want to dig deep this year. Deep into what the holiday means. Deep into how we celebrate it as a family. Deep into what I’m teaching my kids.

So this month we’ll be talking about the greatest love story in the history of the world. We’re going to dive into scripture & here are 4 easy verses to do that with.

Save these. Print them out if you want. Use them as tools or a starting point. Send us videos of your kiddos memorizing these verses with us!

Let’s not miss out on this opportunity to learn what the Bible says about love.

This morning we sat down & made new C H O R E C H A R T S. There are things not on the chart that they will get asked to do also but these are our “non-negotiables.” Meaning every single day, these things are THEIR responsibility.

These will hang on our refrigerator & as each item is completed they can check it off. At the end of the week, IF all items have been checked, they can choose between watching ONE movie OR receiving $1.

Palmer (our almost 2 year old) has 5 tasks that she’s more than capable of handling. 9/10 times she ends up helping her brothers complete theirs as well.

Each boy has 10 chores. Typically I wouldn’t put reading down as a chore but lately it’s been a thing of struggle so to make sure we’re getting that practice in, we went ahead & added it. They rotate nights of helping me with dinner.

How are you starting the year & where do you stand on the topic of allowance? Tell me in the comments! I’ll even pick 1 person to WIN a 🌟F R E E 🌟 chore chart download!!

Tuesday Tip

Instead of working through all 20 numbers in one day, pick 4 or 5 & do them on repeat until mastered then move on. When moving on carry a mastered number over with you & add 4 new ones.

This tip can be applied to alphabet, shapes, colors, states, elements...you get the picture!

🎯This numbers learning resource is listed in our shop! 🎯

FRESH TEST

Have you ever wondered if your eggs are still good or not? If you purchase eggs from the store you probably haven’t given a second thought to it but here on the homestead it’s a question that comes up quite often.
We have a lot of chickens & while we do have nesting boxes for them, sometimes they find a place they prefer. That leaves us egg hunting & wondering if the eggs we find are fresh or if we’ve missed them a time too many.

The simplest way to test an egg’s freshness is to place it in a bowl of COLD water. If it floats, that’s a bad egg & you should THROW IT OUT but if it sinks to the bottom, you’re GOOD TO GO! If you notice your egg sinks but is kind of floating at an angle or on an end, your egg is still good but not quite as fresh.

Here’s the science behind it 👇🏻
As eggs age, the shell becomes more porous, allowing air to flow through it. The more air entering through the shell, the larger the air cell becomes - that’s the pocket of air between the membrane & shell in the larger end of the egg. When big enough (ie old enough) the air sac makes the egg float.

Test your eggs & come back to tell us what you find. You could even turn it into a fun science experiment for the kids!
