One of the most powerful videos we shared with our team during our recent professional development day was “How Every Child Can Thrive by Five” by Molly Wright.

Its message is simple, but incredibly important:

Our attention matters. Our responses matter. Our relationships matter.

Young children learn and grow through thousands of small interactions with the adults around them.

A child looks at us — we look back.
A baby makes a sound — we respond.
A toddler points — we name what they see.
A child asks us to play — we join them.
A child struggles — we stay close and help them work through it.

These back-and-forth interactions are sometimes called “serve and return,” and they help build the foundation for language, confidence, emotional regulation, relationships, and learning.

One of our biggest reminders from this video was:

Children do not need perfect adults. They need present adults.

At ABC Academy, we are continuing to look at how our classrooms, routines, policies, environments, and teaching practices can protect those little moments of connection throughout the day.

We encourage every parent, grandparent, caregiver, and educator to take a few minutes to watch this one.

Put your phone away for 10 minutes.
Let your child choose what to do.
Listen.
Talk.
Laugh.
Notice.
Play.

Your attention is the activity.

Those little moments add up to something very big.

Today we are celebrating a very special milestone — Eireann McDaniel 10-year anniversary with us! 💛

Over the past decade, Erin has been an exceptional teacher, a steady leader, and now an assistant director who supports and coaches teachers in their work with children. She has truly made a lasting impact on so many children, families, and educators through her care, patience, wisdom, and dedication.

Erin is truly the glue that keeps our center going. She helps keep our days organized, our schedules running, our team supported, and our children cared for with so much love and intention.

So much of what Erin does happens behind the scenes, but it makes a difference every single day. Her leadership, loyalty, and love for early childhood education are deeply appreciated.

Since Erin doesn’t love going away on vacation, we decided to celebrate her with the next best thing: a staycation made just for her — including paid days off, a spa package at Essex Resort & Spa, dinner, and a bookstore gift card so she can enjoy some well-deserved rest and a good book.

Erin, thank you for 10 wonderful years of teaching, leading, coaching, encouraging, and caring. We are so lucky to have you, and we are so grateful for everything you do. Please join us in congratulating Erin on 10 amazing years!

Because of their kindness, our students are able to stay warm and cozy around the fire pit during our Nature Nook programming, making outdoor learning even more magical.

We are so grateful for community partners who help us create meaningful, memorable experiences for our kids.

These remarkable children were born into an uncertain world. Many were just a few months old when the pandemic began—some were born right in the heart of it. Their early days were shaped by masks, distancing, and protective bubbles rather than playgrounds and playdates.

They learned to smile with their eyes. To find magic in the small moments. To adapt, to grow, and to thrive—long before they could define those words.

And here they are, already moving on to their next big chapter.

They are strong.
They are resilient.
They are kind, curious, and filled with wonder.
They are everything this world needs.

To all our graduates: We are endlessly proud of you. Keep asking questions, keep being kind, and always remember—you are deeply, deeply loved. 💛

Family Friday!

We celebrated the special people who shape our lives the most — our families! The children were so excited to share new pictures of their loved ones and proudly add them to our Family Wall. These moments help children feel seen, valued, and connected, both at home and in the classroom.

When families are involved, children thrive. A strong family connection builds confidence, supports emotional development, and strengthens the bond between school and home. We’re so thankful for the love and support our families give every day — you make all the difference!
