Update Regarding Tropical Storm Isaias (10/7 - 8pm Update)

In consultation and coordination with Santa Rosa County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service in Mobile, Santa Rosa County District Schools is sharing the following important information regarding Tropical Storm Isaias.

Out of an abundance of caution, and with the safety of our students, employees, and families as our highest priority, all Santa Rosa County District Schools and offices will be closed Thursday, October 8th, and Friday, October 9th.

All school-sponsored activities, including athletic events, practices, clubs, meetings, and other extracurricular activities, are canceled for Thursday, October 8th, and Friday, October 9th.

All district and school-sponsored activities scheduled for Saturday, October 10th, are also canceled.

We understand that changes to school schedules can create challenges for our families, and we appreciate your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we prioritize the safety of our school community.

The district will continue to monitor conditions and will communicate any additional updates through our official communication channels. Families and employees are encouraged to monitor district messages for the latest information.

Our first group of Kings Middle School 8th graders had an amazing visit to the Santa Rosa Center for Innovation today!
Students explored engineering, culinary arts, skilled trades, and 3D printing through hands-on activities and demonstrations. It was a fantastic opportunity to discover new interests, learn about future career possibilities, and experience innovation in action.
We can't wait for more students to have this incredible experience!

🧱💻 When “Follow My Instructions” Isn’t Quite Enough!

Students in Gulf Breeze High School’s AP Computer Science Principles classes got a hands-on lesson in why programming languages are so important!

Students first built small arrangements of LEGO® blocks and then created text-based instructions that a partner would use to reconstruct the exact same design. Once the instructions were exchanged, groups discovered something interesting: even when they thought their directions were clear, their classmates sometimes interpreted them differently!

🔍 The final discussion brought the lesson full circle. Students explored the ambiguities of human language and how easily words can be interpreted in different ways, something computers simply can’t do.

This led to an important question: How do we communicate instructions to a computer with absolutely no room for interpretation?

➡️ Programming languages!

Through this simple LEGO challenge, Mrs. Renfroe helped students experience firsthand why programmers need languages that are precise, structured, and unambiguous.

This is computer science in action! Building, problem-solving, communicating, and thinking like a programmer! 🚀

We were excited to welcome fifth-grade students from West Navarre Intermediate School for an engaging day of career exploration, hands-on learning, and discovering new possibilities for their future!
Students had the opportunity to experience a variety of career and technical education pathways throughout our labs, including:

👩‍🍳 Culinary Arts: Learning about the exciting world of food science

🌬️ Engineering: Designing and building wind turbines

🔧 Small Engines: Exploring how engines work and learning about mechanical systems

🖨️ 3-D Printing: Seeing how digital designs become real-world creations

🏗️ Building Construction: Getting hands-on with construction skills

💻 Digital Design: Exploring creativity and technology through digital tools

We love giving students the opportunity to discover, create, build, and imagine their future careers through real-world experiences!

Today’s tool: Athletic Tape 🏃‍♀️

Athletic tape may look simple, but it plays an important role in sports medicine and athletic training. Professionals use specialized taping techniques to provide support and stability to joints and muscles, help protect vulnerable areas, and assist athletes as they return to activity after an injury.

Students in Sports Medicine and Health Science pathways can learn how to properly apply athletic tape while developing knowledge of anatomy, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and patient care.

It’s a great example of how a hands-on skill can make a real difference in helping athletes stay active and perform at their best. 💪🏽🏃‍♂️

HOSA DAY 2026

The Santa Rosa Center for Innovation welcomed students and teachers from Gulf Breeze, Pace, and Navarre High Schools for a day of hands-on learning, student leadership, and healthcare career exploration.

Created by our incredible Santa Rosa teachers, this event was designed to spark interest in developing and expanding HOSA chapters while helping students explore exciting opportunities in the healthcare field.

Students visited six interactive learning stations led by Santa Rosa students, who showcased their skills and served as mentors throughout the day.
