With the approaching storm, I wanted to send you an update about our meetings. Monday’s schedule may change depending on the storm and any damage in our area.

Prepare Your Animals
As the storm gets closer, it is also important to prepare your pets and 4-H project animals.
Here are some important things to remember:
Pets
Have enough food and water for at least 7 days, if possible.
Keep leashes, carriers, medications, and pet records where you can find them.
Make sure pets have ID tags and that your contact information is up to date (this includes microchip information
Log on to the microchip website and confirm your current contact information.
Take a picture of your pet, so you will have an up-to-date photo.
Know where you will take your pets if you need to leave your home.
Large Livestock
Make sure animals can be identified if fences are damaged.
Ear tags, brands, or livestock-safe paint can help.
Do not rely only on collars or halters. They can break or become dangerous if an animal gets caught.
Some owners write their phone number on the animal using livestock-safe paint. Do not use products that are not made for animals.
Check fences and gates for weak spots.
Remove loose items that could become flying debris.
Make sure animals have access to clean water and feed.
If flooding is possible, move animals to higher ground.
Have extra fencing supplies ready for repairs after the storm.
Poultry
Make sure the coop is strong and secure.
Keep chickens in a safe, enclosed area during the storm. Do not simply turn them loose.
Keep food and water inside the protected area.
Keep feed dry and off the ground.
Make sure the coop has good airflow. Do not seal the coop completely.
If flooding is possible, move the birds and coop to a safer, higher location if you can do so safely.
Keep Important Records
Keep animal health records, vaccination records, horse Coggins papers, and veterinary contact information in a waterproof bag (Gallon Zip Lock) or container. It is also a good idea to take pictures of your animals before the storm.
After the Storm
Please be careful when checking animals and property. Watch for downed power lines, broken fences, flooding, sharp debris, and unsafe buildings. Do not enter an unsafe area just to check on an animal.
Most of all, take care of yourself and your family first. Your animals need you to be safe, too!
