Why attend conferences, even if they are virtual? The bottom line is “to let your child and teachers know they are not alone. To demonstrate with actions that you are your child’s strongest advocate! You believe in her. You will always be avidly interested in his life. You are not going to go away.”

My concern and prayers continue daily for our students, parents, and school staff. This is such a challenging time. All any of us can do is to look for the next step. But remember to pause and breathe; appreciate that sunbeam, let the color of a flower sink into your moment.

At my office I am concluding my summer tutoring schedule in two weeks. I am not sure what the next step will look like. Traditionally I begin my school year tutoring schedule on the third week of school. Those first weeks are full of excitement and adjustments. This fall it may take a bit longer to adjust, you think?

In the meantime, as always, I am available to discuss options and ideas with parents. Such consultations are always free.

Feeling overwhelmed with homeschooling? Give yourself and your child three extra heapings of grace. You are doing MUCH more than you think. The one-on-one time you are spending with your child is top-of-the-line. If you stop to estimate how much individual attention she gets on any given school day, you are exceeding that by far. And give yourself permission to teach some practical skills or learn math with a game. Relax when you can in order to enjoy some of the homeschool activities.

My office will remain closed until the schools reopen. This is an historical time and when we come through to the other side, we will have stories to tell. I love all of the creativity people are displaying. Our children are watching and will learn how to be an adult during tough times.
