Well, there’s a first for everything!
About five minutes into an hour long lesson, the studio power went out. The darkened studio and storm outside made it the perfect opportunity to learn an improvisation called “Stormy Seas”. We also recruited the little ones in the room to use tambourines, bells, and a rhythm game to distract ourselves from the storm outside.
Making music in the dark was so much fun!

Thank you for the kind recognition, PMTA!
I’m not good with words, but at the end of the day, the reason I love teaching music is because of the people. I have been especially blessed to have students and families who love and value me. 💛
✨ TEACHER SPOTLIGHT ✨
We are excited to highlight Julie Kaunitz, a dedicated piano teacher from Pace, Florida! Julie has been teaching for nine years and specializes in piano and music foundations through Ivory Gardens Piano Studio.
For Julie, teaching music is about so much more than helping students develop their musical abilities. She sees each lesson as an investment in a future adult’s life. Through the shared goal of music, Julie strives to help her students develop perseverance, self-confidence, and mental strength while also experiencing the beauty and joy that music brings. She considers it a privilege to help shape not only young musicians, but resilient and confident individuals.
One of Julie’s favorite parts of teaching is the relationships she develops with her students and their families. Working alongside parents has been a consistent highlight throughout her years of teaching, and she especially enjoys partnering with families who share a love and appreciation for music.
Outside of teaching, Julie loves orchestral music and especially enjoys evenings at the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra with her family. 🎻
Thank you, Julie, for your dedication to your students and for using music to encourage confidence, perseverance, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. We are grateful to have you as part of our local music teaching community! 🎹🎶

“Look at the differences between a typical preschool child’s hand (left) and a typical 7 year old hand (right). Want to know why a preschool aged child isn’t able to write yet? This is why! Their hands are still developing and are not fully formed. So what should they be doing to support this? PLAY!! Play dough, coloring, cutting, gluing, playing outside, digging in dirt, sensory play, dress up play, science experiments, beading, puzzles, throwing balls, etc.
All of these things help their hands develop. When they are physically ready to write, they will! No need to rush them, they will show you when they are ready.” ❤️
