Next week we’ll be celebrating!

What is Read Across America?

Read Across America is a day to celebrate reading. It happens every year on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The goal is to inspire a love of reading in kids, families, and communities while showing how fun it can be.

How Can We Celebrate?💡
There are many ways to join in:

👉🏼Read a Favorite Book Together:
Pick a book you love and read it aloud with family or friends. Classics like The Cat in the Hat make great choices, but any book works!

👉🏼Visit a Library:
Explore new books, attend storytime, or join a library reading challenge.

👉🏼Dress Up as a Book Character:
Have a dress-up day and wear costumes inspired by your favorite book characters like Matilda, the Lorax, or Harry Potter.

👉🏼Create a Reading Challenge:
Set a goal to finish a certain number of books during the week, and reward yourself when you do.

👉🏼Write Your Own Story:
Get creative by writing a short story or poem and share it with others.

👉🏼Promote Diverse Books:
Pick books that celebrate different cultures and stories from around the world.

👉🏼Invite Guest Readers:
Ask local authors, teachers, or friends to read aloud and inspire young readers.

👉🏼Take Part in School Activities:
Join your school’s Read Across America events, like book fairs or art projects about your favorite stories.

👉🏼Donate Books:
Gather books you no longer need and donate them to schools, libraries, or charities.

👉🏼Give a Book as a Gift:
Share the joy of reading by giving someone a book they’ll love.

By celebrating Read Across America, we can make reading a fun and meaningful part of our lives and encourage others to enjoy it too!

Emergent Curriculum. This is when i ask the children what they want to do and learn about. One child said crayons. After a second of thinking I knew what we’d all have a blast doing. We watched Mr. Rogers at the Crayola factory (my favorite!!!) and then used a few molds we have here to make our own crayons!! I am sad that the bears didnt come out fully intact, but the lego crayons were a HIT!!!!

Today we got to join in live at the Lunar New Year parade in Hong Kong. We had no idea what they were saying, but enjoyed watching the performances and fireworks. We made our own Snake lanterns. Here is to the year of the Snake 🐍

We are all safe and sound here after feeling the shaking from the earthquake. While the kids didn’t give it a second thought, it gives a great opportunity to talk about what earthquakes are and a chance to show them what it looks like when the plates shift and move.

Today our olders enjoyed working on patterns. We talked about what patterns looked like, where we can find them and how we can continue a pattern. Our youngers got to point and say the words found on the sheet. We were able to work on colors too!
