DAY 2: COURAGE ON THE ROCK. 🧗‍♂️⛰️

Today, our Oaks students traded comfort for courage at Horsethief Butte.

They climbed. They rappelled. They trusted the rope, listened to their guides, encouraged one another, and kept reaching for the next hold.

For some, courage looked like heading straight up the rock. For others, it looked like pausing, taking a breath, accepting help, and choosing to try one more step.

That is exactly what this retreat is about.

Courage is not the absence of fear. It is choosing the next faithful step—even when the hard thing would be easier to avoid.

This video is only a quick preview of an incredible day. More photos and stories are coming soon!

DO HARD THINGS.
COURAGE OVER COMFORT.
Because following Christ was never meant to be easy.

3.14 miles. Two boys. TWO PIES! 🏃‍♂️🥧🥧

Our boys just finished their first cross-country race of the season at the Pasco Pie Race—and they BOTH won a pie! Now that’s a sweet way to start the year! 🙌

What a test of grit and endurance. We’re so proud of these boys for stepping up to the challenge, pushing themselves, and putting our “Do Hard Things” motto into action. The pies are a fun reward, but that courage and perseverance? That’s what we’re really celebrating. 💙💛

More pictures coming soon! GO BADGERS!

’Twas the night before the first day of school, and not a creature was stirring… 💙💛

The evening light falls across a quiet classroom. Everything is ready. Tomorrow, our faithful twelve will walk through these doors, bringing the voices, laughter, questions, and energy that make this place a school.

But tonight, we pause and pray.

These rooms have been prayed over. Not just for a successful school year, but for what only God can do in the hearts of those who gather here.

Lord Jesus, may Your Spirit rest upon this place. Bless everyone who enters these doors, everyone who walks by, and every teenager who crosses this parking lot. Let this be a place where people are seen, welcomed, and deeply loved.

Give our kids more love for others than we ever thought possible. Help them notice the person standing alone, make room for someone new, and offer kindness when it would be easier to turn away. Teach us, the adults beside them, to model that same love.

May we grow in knowledge, but never at the expense of wisdom. May we do hard things, hold fast to truth, and become more like You. And may the love You grow within these walls reach far beyond them.

Tonight, all is quiet.
Tomorrow, we begin.
Lord, this year is Yours.

See you tomorrow, Badgers. 💙💛

There's a difference between informing a student and forming one.

Informing fills a student with facts, skills, and credentials. It's useful — but it's not enough. A student can ace every test and still not know how to live wisely, love their neighbor, or walk faithfully with God.

Formation is something deeper. It shapes character. It builds habits of mind and heart. It asks not just "what do you know?" but "who are you becoming?"

At Oaks, we believe education is formation. Every subject, every conversation, every challenge is an opportunity to grow in wisdom — not just knowledge.

That's the difference we're building toward.

Most high schools are built around one goal: getting students into college or a career. We believe that's not enough.

At Oaks, we're doing something different. We're building a school centered on Christ — where academics, character, and faith aren't separate tracks but woven together into everything we do.

We believe students are made to know truth, love goodness, and seek beauty — and that the best education shapes who they are, not just what they know.

Enrollment is open. 🌿

Last fall, we gathered acorns.

Then we waited.

The acorns spent a few months in the refrigerator, simulating winter, before finding their way into little jars where we watched the first roots begin to emerge. This week, we finally planted them into pots where they'll continue growing.

It's a simple project, but one that feels fitting for Oaks Christian High School.

Right now they're just tiny oak trees. Someday, Lord willing, they may be planted on property that Oaks Christian High School calls home. We trust that dream to God's sovereign timing. For now, we'll focus on keeping them alive through the summer!

Each tree has been given a name and will eventually receive an engraved tag with its name and the year it was planted. Years from now, we hope students can walk among these trees and remember that great things often begin small.

"Though your beginning was small, your latter days will be very great." — Job 8:7

For now, we water, we wait, and we watch God grow.

One of the sweetest parts of this year has been watching our students learn the joy of serving others with glad hearts.

This week we had the opportunity to spend a morning helping a family walking through cancer treatments by cleaning out their garden. There may have been just as much ladybug saving as actual weeding by the girls, but that probably made the morning even better. 😊

We worked hard, laughed a lot, got covered in dirt, and before we left, gathered together to pray over this precious family.

Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” and what a gift it is to watch young people learn that serving others is not a burden — it is a joy. We are thankful for opportunities like these to be the hands and feet of Christ in small, ordinary ways.
