Prop 98 is the backbone of funding for public education in California.

On June 11, CSBA President Dr. Debra Schade participated in a press conference hosted by the California Teachers Association in San Diego where students and educators called for the protection of constitutionally-guaranteed Proposition 98 funding in this year’s state budget — calling attention to the local impact the withholding would have.

“To make the best decisions for kids, school boards need funding transparency, but this withholding introduces uncertainty for boards and instability for kids,” Schade, who also serves as a trustee is Solana Beach SD, said at the event. “As school board members who have to make tough budget decisions, the administration’s withholding forces us into terrible choices that result in fewer opportunities for students who already face enormous challenges.”

CSBA leadership will continue to advocate for the full funding of Prop 98.
