Dishari Public Library is extremely excited to host the talk on the “Rise of Two Stars in History: Uttam Kumar and Soumitra Chatterjee” by renowned film scholar, critic, translator, and author Prof Sanjay Mukhopadhyay. This will be an online event.
In this engaging lecture, Prof Mukhopadhyay will examine how Uttam Kumar and Soumitra Chatterjee came to embody the aspirations, anxieties, and evolving identity of a changing Bengali middle class in post-Independence Bengal. Through an insightful exploration of their landmark films and iconic characters, he will illuminate the complex interplay between cinema, history, society, and culture. Far beyond a celebration of two legendary actors, this talk offers a compelling historical perspective on how these extraordinary artists became enduring cultural icons whose legacy continues to shape Bengali and world cinema.

Join us for Rabindra–Nazrul Jayanti 2026, an evening dedicated to celebrating the literary and musical legacy of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. Hosted by Dishari, the program will feature cultural performances, music, poetry, and recitations inspired by the works of these two legendary Bengali icons.

স্বপ্নময় চক্রবর্তীর সঙ্গে আলাপচারিতা - বিষয় "জলের উপর পানি" :

লেখকের মুখোমুখি: দিশারী পাবলিক লাইব্রেরির আয়োজনে সাহিত্য অকাদেমি পুরস্কারপ্রাপ্ত উপন্যাস "জলের উপর পানি" ঘিরে লেখক স্বপ্নময় চক্রবর্তী-র সঙ্গে সরাসরি আলাপচারিতায় অংশ নিন।
ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশের স্বাধীনতা কেন্দ্রিক দেশভাগ এবং আনুষঙ্গিক পুনর্বাসন প্রক্রিয়ার যে গভীর প্রভাব সাধারণ জনজীবনে আজও রয়ে গেছে, সেটাই এই উপন্যাসের ভিত্তি। প্রধান চরিত্র বিপ্লবের (বিলু ) চোখ দিয়ে পাঠিকা / পাঠক নব নির্মীয়মান উপমহাদেশীয় দেশগুলোর গঠন প্রকৃতির একটা বিস্তারিত মানচিত্র দেখতে পান। সেখানে যেমন রয়েছে ইতিহাস , দর্শন ও ধর্মতত্ত্ব , তেমনি গড়ে উঠেছে নানাবিধ মানবিক অনুভূতির এক অসাধারন কাহিনী ।
এই উপন্যাস, তার নির্মাণ এবং লেখকের সাহিত্যভাবনা নিয়ে থাকবে খোলামেলা কথোপকথন ও পাঠকদের প্রশ্নোত্তর।
