New Teacher Feature: Mr. Hills

After 20 years as an attorney, Mr. Hills followed a calling to become an educator. Today, he brings his experience, wisdom, and passion to AP Government and US History classes in our high school.

One of the things he loves most about SGES is our amazing students. He is inspired by their eagerness to learn and their willingness to engage.

It’s no surprise that his students love him. They say he takes the time to truly get to know them, explains things in a way they can understand, and, most importantly, treats every student with respect.

His journey from the courtroom to the classroom is a wonderful reminder that it’s never too late to follow your calling—and we are so thankful that his calling brought him to SGES! Welcome Mr. Hills!

We are ending the week with increased scientific knowledge. All ages were engaged in science this week.

First graders enjoyed exploring with magnets and learning about magnetic field.

And they don't know it yet, but 8th graders are learning about Newton's Laws of Motion as they design experiments with Ms. Muise's highly calibrated very expensive pieces of scientific equipment AKA toy cars.

10th grade chemistry students got their first experience with a lab using 'real' chemicals. They donned their PPE and collected qualitative and quantitative data.

Have a great weekend everyone!

New Teacher Feature: Abby Teal

We are thrilled to have Mrs. Abby in second grade. When asked what she loves about SGES, she said “My favorite thing about Saint George’s is the students. I love their positive attitudes, kindness, and willingness to learn each day. I also love that I have the freedom to be creative and have fun with my teaching style, which allows me to make learning engaging and meaningful for my students. Most of all, I appreciate the strong sense of community at Saint George’s, and how everyone supports, encourages, and cares for one another.”

Welcome Mrs. Abby!

✊ Rock, Paper, Scissors… GRAPH! ✋✌️

Today our second graders teamed up for math fun inspired by The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors! Students played 20 rounds, recorded their results with tally marks, and used the data to create bar graphs.

A fun way to practice collecting, organizing, and representing data with friends! ❤️📊

In Loving Memory of Dr. Thomas Michael "Mike" Drake

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Dr. Mike Drake, longtime member of the SGES family and former Head of School. Mike passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2nd, surrounded by love.
Mike gave his life to independent education as a student, teacher, coach, administrator, and leader before returning to what he always called his first love: teaching history in the classroom. He served as Executive Director of the Georgia Independent School Association, and his dedication to student-athletes and coaches across the state is still honored today through an athletic excellence award created in his name.
But those of us lucky enough to know Dr. Drake here at SGES remember him for so much more than his titles. We remember his wisdom, his humility, and the genuine care he had for every student, teacher, and family who crossed his path. He shaped generations of young people, and his fingerprints are still on who we are as a school today.
Several years ago, Dr. Drake was honored at our High School Honors Day with a tribute video celebrating his impact on this community. We invite you to revisit it using the link in our bio so you may remember him with us.
Our hearts are with his wife, Mardi, their daughters, and their entire family. We are forever grateful for the years he gave to SGES and to independent education across Georgia.
Rest well, Dr. Drake. 💙

AP Chemistry students put the classic cookie to the test! They designed and conducted a sweet experiment to calculate the percent composition of double stuff versus regular Oreos. Their findings: the mass of the filling is double but the percent competition of the stuffing is not double. Great job!

New Teacher Feature: Let’s take a glimpse of our most wonderful new teachers this academic year. We will begin with Melody Gaskins. Melody is a beloved retired teacher from Upson County. She has touched so many lives and we are thrilled she will continue her legacy here at St. George’s. When asked what she loved about SGES, she said “Teaching at St. George’s Episcopal School is incredibly fulfilling because it allows me to guide students in an environment where they are truly inspired to learn every single day.” We welcome you Mrs. Melody!

One of the things that makes our school so special is the many traditions that happen year after year—traditions that help shape our students, build relationships, and create memories that last far beyond the school year.

🇺🇸 On the second day of school, our fifth graders learned the proper way to raise and lower the American flag and how to fold it with care and respect. It’s a simple tradition, but one that teaches our students about responsibility, teamwork, and patriotism.

⛳️ Our middle school students headed to Topgolf for a day focused on building relationships and getting to know one another. Students were intentionally paired with partners they may not know as well, giving them an opportunity to connect, laugh, and build new friendships.

When they returned to campus, the fun continued with team-building activities designed to strengthen communication, cooperation, and school spirit.

These are the moments that make a school more than just a place to learn. They create community, connection, character, and memories that our students will carry with them for years to come.

We are off to a wonderful start, and we can’t wait to see what this year has in store!

Have a great weekend and Go Dragons!

Today was the perfect start to an exciting new school year!

Our school family gathered together in chapel for our annual Convocation, where our kindergarten students were proudly escorted in by our seniors—a beautiful tradition that reminds us of the journey from the very first day of school to graduation.

After Convocation, our high school students headed to Callaway Gardens for their annual retreat, where they’ll strengthen friendships, build teamwork, and create memories that will last all year.

Meanwhile, our Pre-K through 8th grade students filled the halls with smiles, laughter, and excitement as they reunited with friends, welcomed new classmates, and settled into a brand-new year of learning and growth.

We are grateful for God’s blessings on our school and can’t wait to see all that He has in store for our students, faculty, and families.

Here’s to an incredible 2026–2027 school year—the best one yet!
