The Positive Painting Project Using visual art to help de-stigmatize mental health. Created by Katie Whysong (2006-2021) Katie was an avid art student who struggled with depression.

The Positive Painting Project is a community & student led project that uses visual art to share positive and encouraging messages in schools and throughout communities. Our goal is to use this visual art to help de-stigmatize how we talk about mental health, to encourage seeking help when struggling, and to remind us to check-in on our friends. We are part of a global movement aimed at ending suicide and the stigma surrounding mental health — especially with our youth.

The Positive Painting Project is a local non-profit endeavor created to honor the memory of our daughter, Katie Whysong. She had a huge heart and an amazing idea that we’ve since made our project's mission. Katie tragically lost her battle with depression on March 10, 2021, yet her spirit continues to fight the war. It is in her honor "The Positive Painting Project" was born.

In light of Su***de Prevention Month, SGA members and students colored encouraging prints, from the Positive Paint Project (paintpositive.org). These prints were used to make a big mural in our cafeteria that will remain up all year. This mural is a reminder that behind every face is a life that matters, a story worth listening to, and a future worth fighting for. 🤍

Thank you to the students who brought this meaningful project to life, this could not have been accomplished without you all!
