EARTH Center Garden, Arts, and Folk Festival

Saturday's clean-up was fun and a success!

After a little rain in the beginning, we got out to Washington Place and picked up 7 bags of garbage and recyclables. Barbara W. picked up a bag's worth at the Church Lane Bridge and Liz P. also joined us. Stay tuned for our next activity!

Though a windy day, Milltown's Earth Day Cleanup and Fair on May 10 was a success! We joined many other tables in providing environmental info for the community. There was music, games, Kayaking, tours of Schwendeman's Taxidermy, etc.

Our next event will be a clean-up of the Farrington Lake area, scheduled for May 31. More info to come soon.

Help Stop Destruction of Thomas A Edison Park near Middlesex College

Middlesex County wants to convert this free Public Park into fee-based access, cut down 11 acres of trees and lay down 14 turf fields and large parking lots. The Park was originally acquired from the National Park Service (NPS) with the requirement that the property be used and maintained for the public purposes for which it was conveyed in perpetuity. Approval from the NPS is required for Middlesex County to take this (poorly advised and destructive) action.

Unsurprisingly, we have serious concerns regarding the environmental impact of the proposed project and the conversion from free to commercial space. We encourage watershed friends and residents to comment to the National Park Service and OPPOSE the County’s plan to turn Thomas A. Edison Park into a Destination Athletic Complex with 14 artificial turf fields. You will find the Environmental Assessment and details to provide comment below. NJ Sierra Club also has a petition and they need signers. In short, we believe that the proposal is contrary to the interests of the public and to environmental welfare.

Play your part in stopping this greedy and destructive proposal. Time is short! The comment period ends on September 3, 2024. So just simply state your opposition to:
1. Conversion of a free park to fee for service
2. Destruction of natural areas
3. Installation of artificial turf fields and parking lots

Hi All, Persis and Ryan Garg, students in East Brunswick Public Schools, are having used notebook drive. If you have used notebooks, you can drop them off at boxes in the schools. They are found in all East Brunswick Schools, as well as Joyce Kilmer in Milltown, and the Spotswood ShopRite. Discussions with S. Brunswick, N. Brunswick, and Monroe schools are taking place.

Kudos to Persis and Ryan for initiating this sustainability effort!

LBWP at Milltown's Earth Day Celebration

Bicycle Ride was a success! Several of us joined up Sunday morning at the HQ for a ride through the watershed. The weather cooperated for the most part, with only a few sprinkles during the first half, and the sun coming out during our snack and rest stop at Rowland Park in South Brunswick. Emboldened, we took extra time to visit the headwaters in Monmouth Junction which we share with the Millstone River. However, that extra time spent was rewarded by some moderate rain - about 15 min or so of it - and then dry the rest of the way back. It was an enjoyable ride despite some dampness. We're hoping for better weather next year!
