(288)

Dave Kovar opened his first school in 1978 in Northern California with the philosophy that the principles behind martial arts have wide application in students' lives. This innovative approach combined empowering life skills with traditional martial arts training and led to nationwide recognition. Kovar named his now nationwide organization Satori Academy, borrowing the Japanese term for enlightenment, Satori. Satori symbolizes our goal for all our students, to be "in the moment, at your best." What You Can Expect at Satori Academy -
The curriculum at Satori Academy is a unique blend of leading martial arts styles and places strong emphasis on valuable life skills such as perseverance, focus and self-discipline. The result: As students learn highly effective self-defense techniques, they experience new levels of confidence and empowerment. For children, this means better grades in school and better behavior at home. Teens gain a level of clarity that gives them a huge advantage in dealing with the complexities in their lives. And for adults, this translates directly to increased success in business and more fulfilling personal relationships. Sound too good to be true? Consider this: The stress of today’s pressure-packed world can derail almost anyone, personally or professionally, if they don’t have the internal strength to achieve their goals. Imagine having the clarity to know exactly what you want to accomplish and the mental strength to excel at whatever you set your mind to; that’s what students learn at Satori Academy. And as if that’s not enough, we make it enjoyable so our students love coming back for more. Stop by anytime and see for yourself. Our Invitation to You -
Learning martial arts is fun and provides lifelong benefits, but we know it can be intimidating to jump right into a class. We invite you to come in for a free private lesson with no obligation. You’ll learn some basics and we’ll answer all your questions. We’ll give you a tour of our facility and introduce you to our staff and some of our other students. You’ll see for yourself how we help people develop physical and mental skills to help them be their very best.

Progress does not require a perfect beginning.

A child can struggle at first and still make remarkable progress through consistency.

Small wins add up.

09/03/2026

A child’s progress should be visible in how they treat people.

Skill matters, but improved behavior, respect, and character carry much further.

Those lessons last.

09/02/2026

Good training should have room for beginners and experienced students alike.

Different ages and skill levels can grow together without following the same path.
