We’re pleased to share that Sparhawk Academy was recently featured in Forbes, where Head of School Michael Schell contributed to an article by Brennan Barnard, a leading voice in college and career guidance.

The research from Harvard’s Making Caring Common and Gallup is striking:

79% of Gen Z say they want careers focused on helping others.

51% say their lives lack meaning, purpose, or both.

Nearly half feel “a lot” of pressure to find a single passion.

These findings point to an important question for young people: How do we help them think about purpose without feeling pressured to have it all figured out?

As Mr. Schell shared in the article, “At Sparhawk, we tell our boys that every person is on a journey to examine the role that purpose plays in their lives, and that great joy can be found in that exploration.”

We’re grateful to be part of this important conversation about helping young people discover not just what they want to do, but what gives their lives meaning.

Embarking on our ninth year, with grades growing from third grade into sophomore year of high school, Sparhawk is ready and well on its way into the new academic year. Classroom spaces are getting tighter as our numbers grow, but it is exciting to see this adolescent school maturing in its student body, its faculty, and the structuring of the school. As cherry and pear flower petals flutter to the ground, the apple trees blossom, and more and more trees open into leaf. Bluebirds are hatching their young in the orchard, and boys are catching all sorts of critters: tadpoles, baby turtles, and some big snakes! The grounds and the boys are coming more alive. Capstone trips for each grade begin this week. It's a quick ride through the remainder of the year, so buckle up, and enjoy a bit of Sparhawk!
