Band Family,

A message was sent through skyward and email regarding our band camp rehearsals. If you did not receive a message and you should have, please email me. We have update our rehearsal times as follows:

Pre-camp is still August 5-7. Rehearsal time has changed to 5:00-8:00PM to accommodate for working parents and to avoid heat during the day.
August 5th is for freshmen and leadership only
August 6-7 is for all members

Band Camp is still the week of August 17-21. Rehearsal time has changed to 5:00-8:00PM. With a shortened rehearsal time, students must come ready to WORK HARD!!
All rehearsal times are subject to cancellation due to weather

Safety protocol- The band program is following guidance from the district and public health officials to ensure the safety of our members. Prior to each rehearsal, members must answer a health questionnaire and have their temperature taken. If a student answers “yes” to any question or has a temperature over 100.3 degrees, they must return home. Students are not allowed in the building. If a student cannot maintain 6 feet distance outside, a mask must be worn.

Things to bring to camp:
Instrument
Athletic clothes/tennis shoes
Personal water bottle
Flip folder/lyre (freshmen may purchase these at pre-camp)
mask
A strong work ethic

We are working hard to make sure that students get the best and safest band experience possible. Please communicate any conflicts or concerns you have, I am happy to answer any questions.

Introducing our 2020 Show reveal- The Happy Show!
Sit back, relax, and enjoy as we play songs that are sure to put a smile on your face! We start with an upbeat song “Happy,” which is featured in the film Despicable Me 2. Next, we forget about our worries and explore “The Best Day of My Life” by American Authors. We end with the classic 1967 tune, “Happy Together.” Depending on rehearsal limitations, we will add to the show when possible.

The 2020 Director's Award goes to James Jennings! James was a dedicated member of the band and stepped up in a big way for his senior year. Throughout his years in band, he primarily played trumpet and french horn. This year, he was willing to learn the tuba to cover an important part for band festival. He has also served as trumpet section leader for the Cardinal Marching Band. James performed a trumpet duet with Alex Dunn this year that earned a First Division rating and a chance to perform at the state level! James is also an Eagle Scout who works at D-Bar-A Scout Ranch in the summers. He often uses what he has learned in band to assist in teaching younger Scouts about music. Above all, James brought an enthusiasm and passion to the band that lifted up those around him. It was a pleasure having James in band and we wish him all the best!

The Millington Band Program is proud to present Kendrick Raleigh with the John Philip Sousa Award.

The John Philip Sousa Award is the pinnacle of achievement for high school band students. Created in 1955, the award was developed in memory of the famous composer and bandmaster to honor the top student in a high school band who embodies superior musicianship, dependability, loyalty, and cooperation.

During his time in band, Kendrick played both the french horn and trumpet. He also had the honor of serving as trumpet section leader for the Cardinal Marching Band.
Kendrick stayed involved with band beyond the classroom by participating in things like honor bands, pep band, and solo and ensemble. His persistent practicing allowed him to take his solo to the state level where he earned a medal, an incredible achievement! In addition to his musical accomplishments, Kendrick dependably volunteered at many band events. He was someone who could be trusted to not only get the job done, but get it done RIGHT.

We thank Kendrick for his tireless dedication to our program. Best of luck in your future endeavors!
