In October, Meredith McGann, Director of Outreach with Tennesseans for Student Success, joined us on campus to honor Sophomore, Delia Sigler, for participation in the Tri Star Reads - Summer reading contest for high school students across the state of TN.

Delia read 42 books over the course of the summer, for a total of 27,409 minutes spent reading! The high school book club was on hand to join in on the celebration too. Congratulations to Delia on this incredible accomplishment!

During the first quarter, Mrs. Park’s 11th grade classes read The Great Gatsby and created Instagram posts from Gatsby’s perspective. They did a great job!

Mrs. Park’s Dual Enrollment Composition class wrapped up their unit on the Hero’s Journey by choosing a movie that has a character who completes the hero’s journey. They did a fantastic job!

To conclude their study of Mark Twain’s short story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”, Mrs. Stevens’ classes had a frog jumping contest! They had a blast!

Congratulations to 8th grader Delia Sigler who placed 3rd in her age division (grades 6-8) in the 2022 TN Secretary of State Civics Essay Contest! She was 1 of 12 Tennessee students who placed out of 3,841 students from across the Volunteer State who participated in this year’s essay contest. Delia will receive a TNSTARS 529 College Savings Program scholarship and a trip to the State Capitol this spring! This was the first year that TRA English and History departments collaborated to participate in this wonderful essay contest and we hope to continue in the future!

Students in grades 6-12 competed in a school-wide competition for the Secretary of State Civics Essay Contest. Teachers from the English and History departments collaborated to choose the top two student winners from each grade level. These students’ essays will be entered into the state competition for a chance to earn a TNSTARS 529 Program College Savings scholarship plus a trip to the State Capitol! The winners are:
6th grade: Naomi Blair and Mack Gillon
7th grade: Evie Ford and Reagan Raiteri
8th grade: Colin Corbitt and Delia Sigler
9th grade: Belen Castro and Landon Hatchel
10th grade: William Goudy and Neely Grantham
11th grade: Cade Harkness and Cameron Long
12th grade: Alexis Phillips and Anna Wilder
