Today, our 5th Graders learned all about fire safety, facts about fire fighters and their gear, and heard all about tools located on a fire truck. Thank you to our Local Fire Department for sharing this valuable information with our students!

On Friday, we recognized 31 Knights Of The Month, for the month of September. Our Monthly Focus was “Being Proactive.” The September Knights Of The Month took charge and showed responsibility for their choices, behaviors, and attitudes. Congratulations!

You are invited to participate in our Schoolwide Ofrenda!

All you need to do is email Ms. Medina photos of your friends, family members, and/or loved ones who have passed away. We will properly place these photos on our ofrenda. If you are wanting your photos on display, they can be emailed to [email protected]

Please note, we are asking for emailed/digital photos only, and this is completely optional.

What is an ofrenda?
An ofrenda is a vibrant, decorated memorial to honor friends, family members, and loved ones, during Dia de los Mu***os. Ofrendas are a big part of Mexican culture and we welcome the idea of bringing a piece of that culture to our school!

When and where will our ofrenda be set up?
Beginning Monday, October 26th, we will begin placing photos and decorations on the ofrenda. The ofrenda will be located inside, in the cafeteria. You can begin sending photos now and can send photos as late as Thursday,
October 29th.

When is Dia de los Mu***os?
Dia de los Mu***os is celebrated November 1st-2nd..

How can I Participate?
Send photos to [email protected] These photos can be sent now. Milliken Elementary School is also displaying an ofrenda. If you would like to have a photo displayed at the elementary school, you can send it to [email protected]

For Colorado Count Day, Mr. Plaisance, Ms. Margarita, and Ms. Kellie made a deal… Every student that was at school today got to throw water balloons at the trio. The students had a blast and even some staff members joined the fun!

Congratulations to Selena for being our September Attendance Hero! Selena received a $50 Gift Card to Doug’s Diner!

At the end of each month, we will continue to randomly select a student who exceeds our school average for attendance and that student will receive a gift card to a local business.

📣 October Count Day is October 1!

On Thursday, October 1, Weld RE-5J will participate in Colorado's annual Student October Count, the official enrollment count used to determine public school funding across the state.

Please help us make sure students are in school on October 1.

Every student present helps ensure Weld RE-5J receives the state funding needed to support:
🍎 Teachers and staff
📚 Classroom resources and instructional materials
🎨 Academic programs, activities, and student opportunities
The October Count also helps the state understand student demographics and determine funding related to multilingual learners and other student support programs.

🗓Every Day Matters
While October 1 is an important day, regular attendance matters all year long. Students who attend school consistently are more likely to stay on track academically, build strong relationships, and fully participate in the experiences that make school meaningful.

Attendance Tips for Families
✔ Establish consistent bedtime and morning routines
✔ Prepare backpacks and clothing the night before
✔ Create a backup transportation plan for unexpected situations
✔ Encourage students to talk about school and stay connected with teachers and classmates
✔ Schedule appointments outside of school hours when possible
