❤️🩺 Bringing Healthcare Careers into the Classroom!

Roosevelt High School was excited to welcome Dr. Alan Kress, PT, DPT, LSVT, of Elevated Health & Rehabilitation Services, to campus on Friday!

Dr. Kress spent time with our 9th-grade Introduction to Health Sciences and 11th/12th-grade Sports Medicine students, giving them a firsthand look at the world of physical therapy. Students learned about the education and training required, what the profession looks like day to day, and the many possibilities available within healthcare.

Dr. Kress brought incredible energy, enthusiasm, and personality to the classroom, creating an engaging experience and giving students another opportunity to connect what they are learning at RHS to a real career.

A huge thank you to Dr. Kress for investing in our students, sharing your expertise, and helping inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals!

🎓 College Opportunity for RHS Juniors: LEDA Scholars!

RHS juniors—here’s an opportunity worth checking out!

LEDA Scholars is a FREE college-access and leadership program for high-achieving high school juniors. Selected students participate in a five-week summer experience focused on academics, leadership, writing, college preparation, and SAT/ACT prep.

And the support doesn’t end with the summer! LEDA continues working with Scholars throughout senior year and the college application process, including support with college essays, financial aid, and scholarships.

⭐ Students are encouraged to explore the program if they:
• Have a 3.5+ GPA
• Meet LEDA's income eligibility requirements
• Demonstrate leadership or involvement in their family, school, or community

🌟 Employee of the Week at The Exchange! 🌟

The Exchange at Roosevelt High School is more than a school store—it’s a place where students are learning what it means to show up, take initiative, work as a team, and grow as employees and leaders.

Congratulations to Allison V., Ashlynn R., August N., and Jaric S., who were recognized as Exchange Student Employees of the Week! ❤️🩶

☕ Allison, a second-year employee, has worked hard to improve her speed and accuracy while mastering her role as a barista.

👏 Ashlynn, also in her second year, has stepped up to help train new employees while continuing to demonstrate initiative and a strong commitment to her work.

💪 August, a new Exchange employee, has quickly learned the responsibilities required to open the store each day and has been recognized for his hard work and follow-through.

⭐ Jaric, a second-year employee, continues to stand out for his dedication, effort, and strong work ethic.

What makes these recognitions even more meaningful? Their student managers nominated them! Students are not only developing workplace skills at The Exchange—they're also learning how to lead, mentor, recognize great work, and contribute to a successful business.

📣 Work-Based Learning Shout-Out: Behind the Business of RHS Concessions!

There’s a lot more happening behind the concessions counter than meets the eye!

This year, RHS senior Abagale Charuvilayil and junior Adelyn Carrillo are gaining real-world business experience as Concessions Inventory Management student interns.

Abagale returns to the role after getting started last spring, while Adelyn is beginning her first semester in the position. Together, they’re learning firsthand how inventory, sales, and profitability connect to keep an operation running successfully.

📊 Their work includes tracking inventory and product needs, analyzing sales, collecting data, and preparing weekly sales, inventory, and profit reports. Along the way, they’re strengthening skills in organization, communication, problem-solving, and business operations—skills that connect directly to careers in business, marketing, management, accounting, and entrepreneurship.

Work-Based Learning is about: giving students the opportunity to take what they’re learning and apply it through authentic workplace responsibilities.

A big thank you to Michelle Mauch, their WBL mentor, for creating an opportunity for students to experience the business side of RHS concessions and build skills they can carry into their futures!

🌟 Work-Based Learning Shout-Out: From Student to Advocate!

What can happen when a student is given an opportunity, a great mentor, and the space to grow? RHS senior Liam Burack is a great example.

Now in his third semester of Work-Based Learning, Liam’s experience has grown far beyond the internship that first introduced him to workforce development. Today, he serves on two workforce development boards—one at the Weld County level and one at the state level—giving him a voice in conversations about how schools, businesses, communities, and workforce organizations can better create opportunities for young people.

A huge part of Liam’s journey has been his mentor, Greg Cordova, who has encouraged him to take on new challenges, share his perspective, and build confidence in professional settings.

And Liam is paying that investment forward. ❤️

He has become a strong advocate for helping other students understand the career opportunities available to them and is bringing what he learns through these experiences back to Roosevelt.

This is Work-Based Learning at its best. Liam isn't simply preparing for his own future—he's using his experience and his voice to help create opportunities for the students who will come after him.

🌟 Career exploration starts early!

This year, students across our elementary schools are participating in Career Exploration lessons in grades K–5, helping them discover the wide range of possibilities that could be part of their future.

Each school is bringing the lessons to students in a way that works best for their building—some through library specials, STEM classes, or counseling departments. No matter how the lessons are delivered, every K–5 student explores a new career each month and completes an engaging activity aligned with Colorado Academic Standards.

📣 In September, students explored the role of a Public Relations Specialist and their use storytelling to share ideas, connect with an audience, and help tell the story of an organization or community.

🏗️ In October, students are discovering what it means to be a Civil Engineer and how engineers help design and build the communities around us.

Career exploration at the elementary level isn't about choosing a career—it's about expanding what students know is possible and helping them connect what they're learning today to their future.

🍎 Teacher Cadets in Action!

There’s a lot more to learning how to teach than standing in front of a classroom!

Last week, our RHS Teacher Cadets put learning into practice as they explored different types of social play and how purposeful play can support a child’s cognitive, emotional, and social development. 🧩

Experiences like this give future educators the opportunity to think about learning through the eyes of a child while developing a deeper understanding of how teachers intentionally create environments that support growth and development.

Our Teacher Cadet students earn concurrent enrollment credit through Aims Community College while exploring the many dimensions of a career in education. 🎓

A shout-out to College & Career Pathway instructor Jessica Sunderland for creating hands-on experiences that help students discover what it really means to be an educator.

❤️🩶 Collaboration That Strengthens College & Career Pathways

A big thank you to the industry, higher education, community, student, and education partners who joined us Wednesday evening for the Weld RE-5J Fall CTE Advisory Board Meeting!

Our advisory boards play an important role in ensuring our College & Career Pathways continue to evolve alongside the needs of students, postsecondary education, and the workforce. Throughout the evening, partners worked alongside our CTE instructors to review programs, discuss industry trends and emerging needs, identify opportunities for growth, and begin developing priorities for the year ahead.

These conversations matter. The insight our partners bring helps us strengthen curriculum, evaluate equipment and technology needs, expand work-based learning and industry connections, and ensure students are developing the skills and experiences that will prepare them for what comes next.

We are incredibly grateful for everyone who gives their time and expertise to support our students and programs—and for our CTE teachers who continue to turn that guidance into meaningful opportunities for students. ❤️🩶

🦷 Exploring Careers in Dentistry at Dental Day!

Yesterday, close students from across Northern Colorado had the opportunity to step into the world of dentistry during Dental Day, sponsored by CAHEC and hosted at the Aims Community College Fort Lupton Campus!

Throughout the day, students participated in hands-on activities that gave them an up-close look at the skills, tools, and career opportunities found across the dental field.

Experiences like these give students the chance to move beyond simply hearing about a career and actually experience what the work can look and feel like. 🪥🦷

A big thank you to CAHEC and Aims Community College for creating an engaging day of career exploration and helping Northern Colorado students discover the many possibilities available in dentistry and oral healthcare.

❤️🩶 WBL Shout Out: Students Supporting Students

Work-Based Learning can take many forms—and sometimes the most meaningful experiences are those that allow students to make a difference right in their own school community.

This year, Roosevelt High School launched a new internship opportunity within the Behavioral Health CTE Pathway: Peer Support Advocates. Senior Natalie Hunt and junior Parker Pangle are the first RHS students to step into these roles, helping pave the way for future students.

Under the mentorship of Ann Murrin, RHS Mental Health & Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist, Natalie and Parker are gaining hands-on experience supporting their peers and contributing to a positive school climate. Along the way, they are strengthening skills in communication, conflict navigation, leadership, resilience, and promoting student well-being—skills that matter in behavioral health careers and far beyond.

A huge shout-out to Natalie and Parker for taking on this new opportunity and to Ms. Murrin for creating an authentic learning experience that allows students to put their Behavioral Health pathway learning into practice.
