As we take a beautiful reflect on our last Documentary & Dialogue Series: “A Life Like This” which is directed by our very own, Millersville Alumnus, Jim Hollenbaugh who has the heart to advocate for artists who have various disabilities. The panelists gave educational precipitations and cognizance of the disability community and the social actions that should dismember stereotypes.
The four artists had an amazing interaction with the audience answering questions a few artists had representatives of family and responders to answer certain questions on their behalf.
Malcolm & his mother shared that Malcolm’s favorite artistry is self-portraits and hand-designed tiles of pets. Malcolm has his own website and enjoys painting at home and singing in his mother’s church choir.
Adam shared he enjoys dressing as Santa Claus for children and creating toys, his special technique is ink paint. He paints at the Friendship Heart Gallery & Studio in Lancaster, PA along with his community, they express their organization as “expressing capabilities.”
Sybil shared that her favorite artistry comes from her visual memorization of public restrooms, bright colors, and painting on small wood decorations. She paints at the Outsider Folk Art Gallery, in Reading, Pennsylvania.
David shared he teaches at his studio in Leola, Pennsylvania, with his disability he’s learned to paint realism & oil by only using his mouth. He’s inspired by nature, books, and family.
