Big news:

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the National Electronic Media Association/NBS-AERho/NEMA. On May 1, 1943, five schools came together on the Ohio State University campus for the first “convention” of students to learn more about the future of radio and to celebrate excellence in media scholarship. The organization adopted the name Alpha Epsilon Rho.

We are proud to celebrate 80 years of serving students. Part of that celebration involves looking to the organization’s future and doing what we can to ensure our next 80 years. We have been presented with a unique and exciting opportunity to enable us to do just that.

The leadership of the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) and NEMA/NBS-AERho recently signed a memorandum of understanding stating that NEMA/NBS-AERho members and activities will join BEA. The launch of our relationship and the celebration of our 80 years of service commenced at the BEA April 2023 convention in Las Vegas and BEA will officially take over all NEMA/NBS-AERho’s activities starting today, May 1, 2023.

BEA is an international academic media association serving broadcast students and educators since 1955. BEA has more than 2,500 student, faculty, and professional members at more than 275 institutions of higher education.

We are pleased to announce that NEMA/NBS-AERho chapters will become BEA Student Media Chapters and that Alpha Epsilon Rho will continue as part of BEA.

This enables us to continue what has been the core of our organization for 80 years and our treasured history – recognizing excellence in electronic media students. Under BEA’s umbrella, we also plan for AERho to remain the only honor society for electronic media students recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies.

The bottom line is that this action will provide our students, faculty, and staff members an unprecedented number of opportunities.

Millersville University will also make this transition to continue the tradition of student competitions, conventions and networking. New name-same organization.

We will continue to use this space to share club news with the public and our members.
