Our holidays are but one way we celebrate the diversity and individuality of each human on this Earth. No matter how you celebrate, take time for yourself, recharge, and enjoy the warmth and love that does exist in a sometimes very cold world.

Today’s is Oliver Bednar! Oliver is a junior from Allentown, PA, dual-majoring in Art Education and Fine Arts. Oliver chose to attend Millersville University because of its welcoming environment and inclusivity for LGBTQ+ students. He was also inspired by his high school teachers, who are alums of MU.
In addition to his studies, Oliver is the current president of the Art Club and a member of Color of Teaching. “Both clubs bring me together with people who have similar interests and goals as I,” he says. “They have given me professional opportunities to grow and network with others, as well as a safe space to connect and make friends. Some of my closest friendships have come from these clubs, and I'm so thankful for them!”
So far, Oliver’s favorite class has been Relief Printmaking with Professor Brant Schuller. “All of the classes I have taken with Schuller have been my favorites. Carving the blocks in Relief Printmaking is so relaxing,” he shares. “I love the process and seeing what I can create by the end of it. Having the opportunity to learn a medium that was once used to create posters of advocacy, as relief printmaking has in history, is something I'm so fortunate to experience.”
Oliver’s favorite spot on campus is Millersville’s art building, Breidenstine. “I basically live in Breidenstine. I've had many ups and downs, late nights and early mornings, successes and failures. Pretty much all of the above have happened here. It feels like another home,” he explains.
While he does not have much free time, Oliver enjoys reading and spending time with his friends whenever his course load allows. “I love visiting Lancaster City and seeing art exhibitions on First Friday, as well! The city has lots to offer, and there are so many places to explore,” he says.
After graduation, Oliver plans to get a full-time teaching job at any grade level. He then hopes to pursue his MFA and eventually teach at the college level.
Oliver’s favorite quote comes from the Fantastic Mr. Fox: "I know what it's like to feel different."
