New Fund for Holmes County Youth!

The Holmes County Foundation is delighted to announce the creation of the St. John’s Church of Millersburg Youth Experience Fund!

Created through the generosity of the St. John’s congregation, this new field of interest fund will provide opportunities for Holmes County youth to participate in life-changing experiences in the arts, education, and Christian faith.

Grants may support opportunities such as educational and leadership camps, mission trips and faith-based retreats, music and dance instruction, musical instruments, theater productions, and other experiences that enrich the lives of local youth.

What makes this fund especially meaningful is that it carries forward a legacy of generosity. St. John’s members who gave to the church over the years had a special heart for youth and the arts, and the congregation has chosen to extend that legacy of giving beyond the church to young people throughout Holmes County. ❤️

Applications for eligible charitable organizations will be available through the Holmes County Foundation each fall. For more information contact the Holmes County Foundation at 330-674-7303 or [email protected].

Original donors include:
• The Albert and Evelyn Gerhig family,
• Clell and Vera Maxwell (Clell was a farmer who taught Sunday School and Vera was a beautician),
• Eugene and Edna Simon (Eugene was a fuel delivery driver and Edna was a bank teller who also directed the church choirs),
• Kelus and Ruth Heinbuch (Ruth was a beautician)

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Marilee Roche, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who was also an educator that dedicated many years to serving students at West Holmes High School.

We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. We are grateful for the life she lived, the positive influence she had on her students, and the legacy she leaves behind.

Her legacy continues through the Marilee & Patrick Roche Scholarship Fund at the Holmes County Foundation, which allows her commitment to Holmes County students to live on.

Celebrate the life of Marilee Roche, leave a kind word or memory and get funeral service information care of John M. Taylor Funeral Home.

Friday Fund Spotlight:
Viola Startzman Holmes County Fund for Primary & Mental Healthcare

What if a gift today could help make sure your neighbors have access to healthcare for years to come?

The Viola Startzman Holmes County Fund for Primary and Mental Healthcare was established to provide lasting support for the Viola Startzman Clinic and its work to make quality primary and mental healthcare accessible and affordable for Holmes County residents.

While many people associate the Viola Startzman Clinic with its Wooster location, the clinic has a significant impact right here in Holmes County. In 2025, the clinic provided more than $100,000 in charitable care to Holmes County residents alone.

The need continues to grow. The clinic is currently expanding its presence in Millersburg through a partnership with Anazao Community Partners, providing primary care and mental health services locally. Uninsured patients at this location can receive care free of charge.

The Viola Startzman Clinic's approach goes beyond treating an illness. Its services include primary care, mental health care, dental care, case management and connections to resources such as food, housing and transportation assistance. The clinic also offers a sliding fee scale and charitable care for qualifying patients.

A gift to the Viola Startzman Holmes County Fund for Primary and Mental Healthcare isn't just a gift toward healthcare today—it is an investment in a healthier Holmes County tomorrow. Consider donating at www.holmescountyfoundation.org/giving.
