Georgia Military College President, Major General Terrence McKenrick, welcomed the 2026 Executive Leadership Program participants to campus on their first day of the program by joining them for lunch and sharing his leadership journey, the experiences that shaped him, and the skills that helped guide him throughout his career.

Now in its 10th year, the Executive Leadership Program has provided more than 100 Prep School graduates with the opportunity to gain a 360° view of GMC through a paid fellowship experience. Over the course of the program, participants work alongside departments across Main Campus, building professional skills and learning more about the institution they have been part of for much of their lives.

The program begins with leadership-focused orientation sessions and continues with weekly leadership lunches alongside GMC’s senior leaders. Through these experiences, students develop the skills, confidence, and perspective needed to become the next generation of leaders.

Please join us in welcoming our 2026 Executive Leadership Program participants:

Corinthian (Cici) Austin
Allie Branan

Jonas Crager
Joshua Driskell

Today, Georgia Military College celebrated the U.S. Army’s 251st Birthday with a ceremony honoring the proud history, traditions, and service of our nation’s Army.

We were honored to welcome Colonel Fred Van Horn, GMC’s Executive Vice President Emeritus, as our special guest speaker. A Vietnam War veteran, Purple Heart recipient, and 33-year Army veteran, Colonel Van Horn shared his experiences and reflections on the legacy of the Army and the values that continue to guide Soldiers today.

The celebration concluded with a cherished Army Birthday tradition — the ceremonial cutting of the cake. Representing the strength of the Army’s past, present, and future, Colonel Van Horn, the oldest Soldier present, presented the saber to Second Lieutenant Justin Cheatham-Merritt, the youngest Soldier present, and together they cut the cake.

Following the ceremony, Army veterans and currently serving Soldiers joined together for a group photo, honoring the generations of service and sacrifice that continue to uphold the Army’s legacy.

Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve. Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Army! 🇺🇸

Each year GMC sponsors a student to attend HOBY. The organization focuses on empowering high school students to explore their leadership potential, understand their strengths, and make a positive impact in their communities. The HOBY programs emphasize personal, group, and service leadership, helping students develop confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

This year there were three applicants for the HOBY sponsorship- after interviewing the girls, it was decided to split the sponsorship between them- Alegria Zabala, Leoni Green, and Sophia Abney.

Leioni stated that HOBY helped her realize that in life, everyone will find their place and people. Sophia reflected on the seminars that gave great advice on how to lead and listen effectively. All three of the girls raved about the diverse group they had the opportunity to build friendships with and plan to stay connected to.

Some of our middle school girl’s basketball team spent Saturday competing in the Michelle Clark-Heard Team Camp at Mercer University. The Lady Bulldogs worked hard, grew as a team, and finished the day undefeated with three wins. We are excited to see their continued growth and look forward to a great season this fall! 🏀🐾
