Was blessed to visit with Mr. George Hunt, during my church’s annual Serve Day. Mr. Hunt is a US Navy vet, the oldest veteran living at the Georgia War Veteran’s Home and its only WWII veteran!

On 19 MAY 1944, airplane #41-29474 a B-24 of the 579th Bomber Squadron of the 392nd Bomb Group flew its 11th mission. The plane carrying 2LT Lonnie L. Babb, Jr., of Milledgeville, Georgia, was shot down over Germany and did not return. All hands were lost, recovered, and buried by German citizens. Most of the crew were disinterred and reinterred in American cemeteries in Europe and in the United States. 2LT Babb was reinterred in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. He rests there today.

Stories such as Lonnie Babb's are stories that need to be told. Help us by sending us the names of men and women from Baldwin County, Georgia who served in the military during World War II.

This is why we are asking for your help in identifying WWII veterans from Baldwin County. Pictured are two veterans I was blessed to meet this summer. LT Millie Bailey was a WAC and Seaman Sig Alman was a radar operator on the USS Monteray. You can help by spreading the word!

Hello! The purpose of the Baldwin County World War II Veterans page is to uncover the names of as many WWII vets from Baldwin County as possible and we need your help. If you know of anyone who served in any branch of the military from December 1941 through 1946 please drop us a note and let us know. Our desire is to eventually create a lasting memorial to these men and women that will become a tool enabling us to teach the future greatest generations about what is undoubtedly the Greatest Generation.

In addition way too many of these veterans are dying without their story ever being told....we aim to rectify that.

Again, help us collecting names in addition to the 48 members of the Greatest Generation from Baldwin County who gave the greatest sacrifice.
