Georgia College International Club International Celebration Video - 2021 05/10/2021

A collaborative effort of the International Education Center and the Georgia College International Club - one of the largest and most active student organizations on the GC campus - the International Dinner is a highlight of the social calendars of both Georgia College and the local community and region. The Dinner helps raise scholarships for international students to come to Georgia College and historic Milledgeville.

Although, because of COVID-19, the Club was unable to hold an in-person International Dinner in 2021, the International Club planned, organized, and created a recorded virtual event that presents all the favorite parts of the evening: The talents of GC International Club members - plus Club alumni participating from around the world - as displayed in the Cultural Heritage portion, plus the showcasing of traditional costumes, and even some traditional dishes. While a virtual tasting was not possible, students shared some of their favorite recipes, many of which have been handed down for generations within their families. Entirely their own production, the students worked hard on this event, which we know you will enjoy.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Geza Martiny. His contagious energy and enthusiasm for international education positively impacted and supported the students, faculty, and staff of Georgia College as well as the entire Baldwin County. He served as an advocate for and mentor to the international students of GC and his generosity will be sorely missed. We are so grateful for the many contributions that Geza made to international education, Georgia College and beyond.

Confronting Islamophobia

The post 9/11 era in the U.S. has exposed a significant degree of prejudice and bigotry toward Muslim people. As the American Muslim population is predicted to double over the next two decades (from 2.6 million in 2010 to 6.2 million in 2030), eradicating Islamophobia for good should be first and foremost in the minds of everyone who dreams of a more peaceful, equitable world. A panel will explore the fear and prejudice against the religion of Islam while working to shape a more inclusive society Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. in the A&S Auditorium.

This event is sponsored by the Office of Inclusive Excellence, the Muslim Student Association, Department of Philosophy and Liberal Studies.

GC Campuses closed Sept. 9-12

Out of an abundance of caution and due to weather and road conditions as a result of Hurricane Irma, Georgia College will be closed on Saturday, September 9 and will open to resume normal operations on Wednesday, September 13. All classes (including Macon, Warner Robins and online classes), activities and normal business operations will cease during the closure and only essential personnel will report to work.

The safety of our students, faculty and staff remains our top priority. We encourage everyone to tune into local TV and radio stations for updates on weather and road conditions and be mindful of extended travel times due to significant road congestion across many parts of Georgia.

For those students who will remain on campus, please note that limited services will be available for dining and transportation needs. Weekend dining hours (Brunch from 11 am to 2 pm and Dinner from 5 pm to 7 pm) will remain in effect throughout the closure. Shuttle services will be provided between the West Campus and The Max thirty minutes before and after each meal period.

Please monitor Front Page on our website for any updates to this emerging situation.

Thank You
