Documental "Un nuevo estilo de baile" 11/05/2021

A great, new documentary about the cultural explosion that preceded the end of the Chilean dictatorship by two of the scholars/writers we work with in the Mayterm in Santiago.

Below you can see Aaron Castroverde's (Assistant Professor, World Languages & Cultures) article on the bounds of global Hispanisms, which was just published by the Cincinnati Romance Review.

Article: “José Rizal and Benito Pérez Galdós: Writing Spanish Identity in Pascale Casanova’s World Republic of Letters”.

Author: Aaron C. Castroverde

Abstract: This article will examine the relationship between Casanova’s World Republic of Letters and its critical importance, demonstrating the false dilemma of anti-colonial resistance as either a nationalist or cosmopolitan phenomenon. Her contribution to the field gives scholars a tool for theorizing anti-colonial literature thus paving the way for a new conceptualization of the ‘nation’ itself. As a case study, we will look at the novels of the Filipino writer José Rizal and the Spanish novelist Benito Pérez Galdós.
