Building a community takes time, energy, vulnerability, hope and possibly moments of discomfort. Tuula and Mae, have been growing their friendship during our after school enrichment classes. Nourished Life Schoolhouse is a place where children can make friends and have support while navigating what being a good friend means.

We end each day with a gratitude circle. Yesterday, Tuula was grateful for imaginative play. If I only counted how many times they say “pretend I’m…” during our daily free play time. Imaginative play is such an instrumental part of childhood and should be preserved as long as possible! Tuula is 10 and is playing “chicken farmer and restaurant” with her friends in this picture. NLS is a place where imagination, creativity and play is celebrated for all ages.

We are thrilled to be offering 3 weeks of summer camp! Meme plans to create a fun-filled day that is sure to make your child's summer favorite memories list! Each day your child will interact with any number of these things: outdoor explorations, crafts, character development, hands-on learning, cooking, world studies, story time, free play and more! You can also expect that your child will play, laugh, learn and build relationships with friends.

Our schedule is helpful for the children who gain peace of mind from knowing what’s happening during the day. There are no times on the schedule on purpose. Our days are not set in stone but are very flexible dependent on the direction the children take us.

We encourage the children to use their own voices throughout the day except during play-time and schedule reading time. This is a time when they can use their silliest voices and they love it. It rotates daily so everyone gets a chance!

Nourished Life was chosen as the name of our one room schoolhouse because our mission is to nourish the whole child! People often think that nourishment only comes from food. Nope, minds and hearts also need to be nourished daily!

But nourishing food is very important, all food served at NLS is organic and bought from local farmers whenever possible (Thank you )! We believe that your children deserve the best! Meme has a passion for helping children build a positive relationship with food. There is no talk of good food or bad food. Students are encouraged to try new things and respect others’ ways of eating. We have conversations about food and around food. We give gratitude to the framers, ranchers and all the hands that touched the food we enjoy! If there is curiosity around a new food, we try it together! Although peanuts, jelly nor sourdough are not often part of our snack, Tuula had never had a P,B&J and asked if we could try it one day! So we did! Food is nourishing, delicious and fun!

Today marks our 101 day of school! Yesterday we celebrated all of their hard work and growth. They had fun dressing up as 100 year olds, pictured is their impression of 100 year old faces.
We keep track of the days of school in our morning meeting. They put one sticker on a ten frame daily. This is a really great visual way to incorporate math daily. They choose how they want to count (skip counting by 2s, 3s, 5s or 10s). It’s prep for building a wonderful number awareness - when a ten frame is full, we get another one.

If we haven’t met, I’m Ms. Meme, Co-Founder of Nourished Life Schoolhouse with these precious girls’ parents, Warren and Rebecca Phillips. We started this school as an additional option to traditional schooling and homeschooling, blending the best of both. I love educating, nourishing, and helping grow the amazing children in our community!

Not too long ago, one room schoolhouses were the only option and that’s because children learn so much from peers and siblings of all ages. With custom-curriculum and a small class size, I can meet each student wherever they are on their unique learning journey and adjust my teaching style so each student receives information in the best way for them to process it. Following Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophy; character building, love, play, nature and beautiful living books are part of our every day! We have several new followers so I thought I’d step out from behind the camera and put a face to the teacher at NLS for any interested newcomers!

NLS Enrichment Clubs include hands-on learning, story time, playtime with friends and of course fun! The club topics this session were recommended by children in our community. These classes are for children aged 5-12.

There will be no classes the week of April 18 making the last week of this session of clubs the week of May 16.
