The Green Anole is a small, native lizard in Alabama that can change from green to brown. They are insectivores and support a healthy local food web by serving as a food source for larger birds and snakes while regulating insect populations.

ANC’s Matt Vines demonstrates how to use a cast net.
Cast net fishing, also called throw net fishing, is an active fishing method where an angler throws a circular net by hand into the water’s surface. These nets have weights along the perimeter in order for the net to sink fast and trap fish beneath them.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN for Christmas Field Trips at the Alabama Nature Center in Millbrook, AL

Christmas is just around the corner, and Santa is visiting the Alabama Nature Center! Enjoy a sleigh ride, create a festive ornament, embark on a nature hike, participate in story time, and snap a photo with Santa after sharing your holiday wishes! This magical day was inspired by the beloved book “A Warm Winter Tail” by Carrie A. Pearson.

Join us on one of these available dates:
December 3, 4, 7-11, 14-18

Session times:
8:45am-12:00pm OR 10:45am-2:00pm
$12/student for a half day | No charge for chaperones
2.5 hours of program time plus half an hour for lunch.
