We’re closing the year by launching something new at School-to-School International: our first grant for local organizations in Tanzania that are putting the Whole Child Model into practice.

This marks an important shift—investing directly in community-led education and the local expertise that makes lasting change possible. As we look ahead, we’re grateful for partners who believe in locally driven solutions and whole-child learning.

This year has been a challenging one for STS. We lost significant funding, closed offices, and said goodbye to many colleagues. Yet our mission remains the same: every child deserves access to quality education.

Through partnerships with local educators and a focus on sustainable programs, STS is still here — keeping hope and learning alive around the world.

Summer Clubs reflect what STS believes: supporting the Whole Child. By strengthening education, promoting well-being, and fostering safe, supportive communities, children like Zainab are gaining the skills and confidence they need to thrive. We’re proud to partner with Manahel and others to make this vision a reality.

In the Summer Club at her local school, Zainab discovered new opportunities to grow in confidence and improve in science.

Summer Clubs are safe spaces where children can catch up in reading and maths, gain new skills and nurture their curiosity. They also promote psychological well-being and social growth, giving children the chance to express themselves, play and build safe, supportive relationships with peers and mentors.

We’re proud to support the Summer Clubs with partners like تكافل الشام - Takaful Al Sham, Orange Organization and Action For Humanity - International. Together, we’re making a real difference in children’s lives and preparing them to return to school in the new academic year with the tools they need to succeed.

🚨 Education is at risk—USAID’s funding freeze continues, despite a federal judge’s order to lift it. 🚨

School-to-School International relies on USAID for 90% of its funding. Without it, we’ve been forced to pause programs, furlough staff, and drastically cut back on delivering the education resources students desperately need.

We refuse to give up on the students, teachers, and communities that depend on us. But we urgently need your support.

📚 Your donation today will:
✅ Keep classrooms open and students learning
✅ Support staff who are working through uncertainty
✅ Help us advocate for the release of blocked funds

This is a crisis—but with your help, we can keep hope alive. Please donate today:

What a difference a month makes. Like so many in our sector, STS is facing painful layoffs, furloughs, and drastic program cuts due to the ongoing dismantling of USAID.

But this isn’t just about STS. It’s about the millions of children who rely on organizations like ours for the education they deserve. Without urgent action, their futures are at risk.

At STS, we believe education is a human right—not a privilege. Even in the face of uncertainty, we remain committed to ensuring that children continue learning, teachers receive the training they need, and communities have the support to build brighter futures. But we can’t do this alone.

The USAID-funded STEP Activity in Malawi is tackling the day-to-day challenges faced in primary schools in making education accessible to all students. A recent study aimed to assess the status of inclusive education and special needs education (SNE) within teacher training institutions (TTIs) and primary schools in the country. While the results uncovered inspiring examples of resourcefulness, it also revealed a significant need for more comprehensive training and resources for TTIs in Malawi.

Through its partnership with Malawi's 22 TTIs, the STEP Activity will focus on incorporating inclusive learning practices into language and literacy subjects through targeted continuous professional development interventions for educators. This will contribute to creating a more inclusive and equitable education system in Malawi.

Educational research has consistently highlighted the vital role of reading comprehension in students’ overall academic success. On this International Day of Literacy, we highlight STS Whole Child Model efforts to enhance literacy education in Tanzania.

The Whole Child Model team conducted a comprehensive Literacy Workshop targeting the crucial area of reading comprehension. This workshop held in the Arusha district brought together 12 dedicated teachers from two local schools, and the MOE Ward Education Officer who expressed enthusiasm about the content and impact of the training. Participants engaged in hands-on practice, using specially designed comprehension lesson planners to create and refine their own lessons. If you’d like to support our efforts in reading comprehension, we invite you to donate at sts-international.org/support
