Due to icy conditions, Saluda Elementary School will be closed for students on Thursday, Feb. 5. All other schools are operating on a normal schedule.

Polk County Schools will resume classes on a two hour delay beginning Wednesday, Feb. 4.

While many main roads have improved, some secondary and rural roads remain icy and unsafe for school bus travel. To ensure student safety, school buses will not travel on certain roads until conditions improve.

A message from Polk County Schools Superintendent Todd Murphy: Due to ongoing hazardous conditions on many secondary roads, Polk County Schools will be closed for students on Tuesday, February 3. Tuesday will be an Optional Teacher Workday for staff.

Our Transportation, Maintenance and school teams have been working diligently to improve road access, parking lots and school grounds. Their priority is ensuring that conditions are safe for buses, staff and students. We are committed to getting students back in school as soon as it can be done safely.

We will continue to monitor conditions closely and will update families as soon as possible regarding any additional schedule changes. Thank you for your patience, flexibility and understanding.

Due to snow accumulation and hazardous conditions on many roads, Polk County Schools will be closed for students on Monday, February 2, 2026. Monday will be an Optional Teacher Workday for staff.

A message from Polk County Schools Superintendent Todd Murphy:

First, I want to thank our Transportation and Maintenance Departments as well as our school staff for their hard work preparing campuses and checking road conditions. Unfortunately, many of our secondary roads are still not safe for bus travel. At this time, approximately 65% of our bus routes remain impacted by ice.

Due to these conditions, Polk County Schools will be closed on Friday, January 30, 2026. Friday will be a required workday for staff.

We will continue to closely monitor the weather through the weekend and will share updates if any additional schedule changes are needed. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and please stay safe.

Winter Storm Fern wasn't the only ice event for Polk County last weekend! Polk Central and Sunny View Elementary choruses took to the ice at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville on Friday, singing "God Bless America" during first intermission of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits game. This marks the third consecutive year our students have performed at a professional hockey game!

Getting there took careful planning and weather monitoring throughout the week. Music teacher Lacey Cochran and district officials stayed in constant communication with the Swamp Rabbits as Winter Storm Fern approached, ensuring everyone's safety. When conditions were deemed safe, our students delivered an amazing performance—and had the time of their lives! Students loved singing on the ice, seeing themselves on the jumbotron yelling "Let's go Rabbits," and experiencing professional hockey. One student called it "one of the best nights of my life!"
