The American Academy of Pediatrics reinforces an important message below: Every child should learn to swim—and they should start early.
Swim lessons are a key part of drowning prevention, alongside active adult supervision, pool barriers, and life jackets when appropriate. Together, we can help keep kids safer in and around the water.

In his recent “Letter from the President,” AAP President Dr. Andrew Racine reminds pediatricians and parents that drowning prevention should start early. "We must embrace the mindset that all children should learn to swim – and they should start early,” said Dr. Racine.
