You don’t need to be in shape to start jiu-jitsu. You get in shape because of jiu-jitsu.
Most people wait until they feel “ready.” That day never comes. We meet you exactly where you are — day one.

Mount position week continues ✅— and the kids are getting after it too.
Staying on top isn’t just a jiu-jitsu skill. It’s a life skill. Stay composed. Stay patient. Don’t panic when it gets uncomfortable.
That’s what we’re building in our Young Lions Kids Program — one position at a time.🦁

A father’s job is to prepare his kids for a world that won’t go easy on them.
That’s what jiu-jitsu does too.
It doesn’t hand out trophies for showing up. It teaches you to lose without excuses, get back up without complaint, and earn every inch of progress the hard way. No shortcuts. No participation belts. Just the truth, every time you step on the mat.
The fathers in our academy understand this. Some train. Some just bring their kids and watch from the side, week after week. Either way, they’re teaching the same lesson: discipline isn’t punishment — it’s how you build people who can handle real life.
That’s the standard here. Earned, not given. Passed down, not bought.
Happy Father’s Day from RGA Milford — to the fathers raising the next generation right.

Here’s a 200-word Instagram post in the style of a Renzo Gracie academy message:
Brown belts are some of the most advanced practitioners on the mat. By the time someone reaches brown belt, they have usually spent many years training, overcoming challenges, refining techniques, and developing a deep understanding of Jiu-Jitsu. They are only one step away from black belt, yet many of them remain some of the most approachable and helpful people in the academy.
For beginners, brown belts are often the perfect training partners. They have enough experience to control the pace, keep training safe, and create opportunities for learning without overwhelming a new student. They remember exactly what it felt like to be confused by positions, nervous during sparring, and uncertain about the next step in their journey.
A great brown belt doesn’t just train hard—they guide others. They answer questions, offer encouragement, and help newer students understand the principles behind the techniques. Their role is much more than simply preparing for black belt; they help build the next generation of Jiu-Jitsu practitioners.
If you’re new to the academy, seek out the brown belts. Their knowledge, patience, and willingness to help make them some of the best teachers you’ll ever find on the mat.

For more than 100 years, the Gracie family has carried forward a legacy built on discipline, courage, respect, and personal responsibility. Long before Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu became a worldwide phenomenon, it was a way of life—a system designed to help ordinary people develop confidence, character, and the ability to overcome adversity.
For the last 30 years, the Renzo Gracie team has proudly carried those values in New York, helping thousands of students grow both on and off the mat. While techniques evolve and competition changes, the core principles remain the same: humility, perseverance, loyalty, and the pursuit of constant improvement.
In a world that often seems disconnected from tradition, accountability, and community, these values matter more than ever. Jiu-Jitsu teaches us that shortcuts don’t work, that respect must be earned, and that real growth comes through consistent effort over time.
The Gracie legacy isn’t just about fighting. It’s about building stronger individuals, stronger families, and stronger communities. It’s about remembering where we came from while preparing ourselves for whatever challenges lie ahead.
At Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy Milford, we’re proud to be part of that tradition and honored to help carry that legacy into the next generation.
MartialArts Discipline Respect Community

Last Sunday marked something bigger than a belt. It marked 30 years of Team Renzo Gracie and 30 years since Renzo Gracie brought his vision to New York City and helped change martial arts forever. RENZO GRACIE ACADEMY HQ .NYC.
On that historic day, our Head Coach Mark Cerrone was awarded his 5th Degree Black Belt by Master Renzo Gracie .
In jiu-jitsu, rank is measured in more than technique. Time matters. Sacrifice matters. Character matters. But above all—loyalty matters.
For over three decades, Coach Mark has stayed the course. Through victories, setbacks, growth, changing seasons of life, and generations of students, he remained committed to the path and loyal to his professor, teammates, and the values that built this community.
A black belt is not a finish line. Five degrees is not a destination. It represents thousands of classes taught, thousands of rounds fought, and countless opportunities to lead by example.
Jiu Jitsu teaches that excellence is built quietly, consistently, and without seeking applause. This promotion represents exactly that.
Congratulations Coach Mark. Thank you for carrying the flag with honor and continuing to build the next generation.
