Congratulations to KCRC rowers and Milford High School students Allie DeJonge (senior) and Avery Holdsworth (sophomore) on winning gold in the Women’s 2V/JNR 8+ at Sunday’s Arctic Classic Regatta!

Racing in a combined crew with new teammates from Northville Rowing, the boat went from a 6th-place finish at Saturday’s Heron Henley Challenge to 1st place on Sunday. What a turnaround in just one day!

This is the first time in history that TWO Milford High School rowers have medaled at the same regatta.

Pictured: Avery (far left) and Allie (center) with their Northville teammates. Way to go, ladies! 🚣‍♀️🥇

Why row?

Rowing is a team sport where every seat counts and anyone can start from zero.

Every muscle gets used with none of the pounding. Each stroke uses your legs, core, back, and arms. Because you row seated, it's easy on knees and ankles.

No bench, no benchwarmers. A boat only moves fast when everyone pulls together. Every rower matters, every stroke.

You run the race. Once the boat leaves the dock, the crew takes over. Rowers learn to think for themselves, stay calm under pressure, and own the result.

Build better habits in the classroom. Rowers learn to plan their week, show up prepared, and work toward long-term goals, skills that carry straight into school.

Phones down, water up. Practice happens outside on Kent Lake, with sunrises and sunsets, swans, and a break from the screen.

Get better at your other sport. Swimmers, runners, volleyball players, and softball players build stronger legs and core, plus more endurance, in their off-season.

Make friends for life and open doors to college. The friendships you make in a boat last, and rowing experience stands out on college applications.

This weekend, join more than 20 high school teams at Kensington Metropark for not one, but two regattas!

Racing starts at approximately 8:30am on both Saturday and Sunday (start times will be posted later this week), with boats launching and returning to Maple Beach. Fall races are time trials, meaning crews will be competing against the clock, not head-to-head, so there will be non-stop action each day.

This is open to any high schooler (incoming 9th - 12th grades) from ANY high school. There is no commitment beyond the camp, but if you are interested in trying out for a team, this is excellent prep.
