Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Pike County, PA

Assisting the Penn State extension of Pike County, PA with educating the public in best practices in consumer horticulture and environmental stewardship.

-Information Master Gardeners are volunteers trained by the Penn State Cooperative Extension. Once they complete their training, Master Gardeners help the Extension better serve the home gardening public by answering questions, speaking to groups, working with 4-H horticultural projects, participating in civic

beautification, maintaining demonstration gardens, teaching plant sciences and horticulture, maintaining this web site, and in many other ways. Master Gardeners are willing and able to educate individuals and groups in gardening topics such as plant selection, composting, soil improvement, pest control, vegetable and flower gardening, pruning, and more.

Spotted in Milford Gardens (plural!)

Coneflower rosette mite damage looks like green to reddish-brown, elongated, fuzzy tufts or "rosettes" sprouting directly out of the center cone or sides of the flower head.

Affected flower heads should be removed and discarded- not composted or left in the garden.
The plant itself will not be affected- only the flowers.

The composting workshop scheduled for Sat, Aug. 8th has been cancelled. If you registered for this event, you should've received a cancellation noticed. The workshop will be rescheduled at some point.

The Pike County Seed Library at the Pike County Public Libraryhad an incredible inaugural season. In the past 5 months, the library has given out:
847 vegetable seed packets
646 flower packets
278 herb packets
That is a grand total of 1771 seed packets.....

Thank you to all who participated in this new project. We can't wait to see what you're growing.
