This morning we went on a puddle jumping walk to the post office to mail a very special thank you card. Along the way, we got to say hi to Dustin, the bottle redemption guy, who is always so kind and welcoming to the kids.

As we made our loop around the block, we stopped at the huge puddle that always sits near the fire station after a good rain.

While we were at the fire station and the kids were splashing around, the firefighters on duty, Maci and David, asked if we wanted to come inside and see the fire trucks and ambulance. What started as a simple walk to the post office and some puddle jumping turned into an unexpected lesson about fire safety, community helpers, and the important people who help take care of our community.

This is one of my favorite things about the way we learn at The Step Forward Center. We just follow the children's interests, get outside, and see where the morning takes us.

Today, like the many other days we have had, the community became our classroom. With it being Fire Prevention Month, we are especially thankful for the opportunity to have this kind of hands on experience and to talk with the people who make fire safety real for our children. We are also so thankful for the people throughout our community who take the time to know our children, say hello, invite them in, and make them feel like they belong.

It takes a community to teach children and help them grow, we are really lucky to be part of one that continues to show our kids that they are an important part of it. The best lessons are the ones I never planned for.

Yesterday, our preschool / early learning program had fall picture day, and the smiles are everything!! 🤗💚

Thank you to Olivia for putting this all together, including taking the photos!!

Yesterday, we celebrated Michelle Day's 1 year anniversary with Courageous Steps!

Michelle plays a huge role behind the scenes for our organization. She has been an instrumental partner as our Special Projects Assistant supporting many initiatives including the development of our advisory panels, connecting with new partners, and providing support to our leadership team on several projects.
