Yesterday, we worked with Mrs. Pinkowski's First Grade to beautify the front of Paddock. The students weeded, tilled, and planted new flowers. The flowers were grown in the Milan High School greenhouse by members of the Milan FFA - Michigan.

The students were proud of their work and loved getting their hands dirty. 🌼🪴

The Milan FFA - Michigan did a great job teaching our first grade students about agriculture. Thank you to Mr. Federer and his students (including several of my former first graders).

We had a great field trip to the Milan Public Library. A special thanks to Ms. Jennifer for the time she put in to help the students explore the library. She also processed library card applications prior to our trip. Every child was able to pick up their first library card and check out a book during our visit. My heart was full!

We have been studying characters and the adventures they take in the books we read. The first graders learned about character feelings and compared them between books. We also learned that characters learn lessons and we can think about our own lives through these lessons.

Every student chose a fiction book to use for our reading celebration. They used Seesaw to record a retell, explanation of character feelings, and the lesson from their book. Students took a picture of the pages to show text evidence.

Today the students set up their desk with a QR code and the book they used. Everyone walked around with their headphones and iPads to listen to the work of their classmates. We called it a silent disco and it was AMAZING!

After the celebration I asked the studenrs for feedback. Here are some of the words they shared: “It was awesome”, “I’m so proud of my classmates”, ”Some of the books were funny”, “I was surprised”, “I can’t believe how fun it was”, “This was the best”.

Proud is an understatement.

All of our elementary students from Young 5s to 5th grade will have at least one piece of art in the art show. It’s all happening at Paddock tomorrow night during the Grand Event from 4pm-7pm. Please come on out and check out all of our hard work! See you there!
