This beautiful boy joined our family last Monday evening, and we’re so in love! Ms. Lindsay, Luke, and the whole family are doing great. We’ve been singing a lot of “Lukey’s Boat” for this sweet guy! He can’t wait to join music class this fall! 😉🥰

This is so important!

We’re having such a blast this spring semester! So far we’ve used the songbook a couple of times in class, and I’ve got another way for you to enjoy it at home— current families, can you and your children find all these images in your Maracas songbook? Which song illustration is your favorite? 🥰
Love this! Making music together = joy.
The marimba has a special place in my heart because a) it’s beautiful, but mostly b) I lived with a marimba for three years in college because my dear friend and roommate (a percussionist) owned one. 😂

I got to snuggle three sweet kiddos (four, if you count the one in my belly!) during one of our songs in class last week— it’s such a joy and a privilege for me to get to sing and play with so many wonderful children and their families! Music Together is so special to me because it combines music learning with a strong focus on building community. ❤️

I posted earlier this week about how there's no minimum age for music learning, so here's a great reminder that our older kids still benefit from Music Together also! I found my almost 6yo and almost 8yo playing with one of this semester's chants-- they're technically above the age range we teach in class, but they're absolutely not "too old" to play with the music like this! Makes my heart happy. 🥰

There is no minimum age to start engaging musically with your child! Even babies in utero benefit from hearing music, and the littlest babies can coo along. Music is magical, folks.

So much fun with the parachute last week! Besides being a super exciting prop, the parachute also provides a kinesthetic and visual representation of rhythm-- amazing! Plus it's always a blast to do "parachute rides" when we're able to… 😁
The biggest thing we do in our classes? PLAY.
As Mr. Fred Rogers said, "Play is really the work of childhood." We were just talking in class about the value of silliness in our children's learning-- it's because they learn through play (and of course being silly is a big part of that)! It is SUCH a joy for me to teach in a way that is not only educational, but also fun and relationship-building. Thank you for playing in music class!

This week’s classes were SO lovely! We rocked out with Crazy Train for our free dance, drummed as a community, and kids and adults alike are making new friends. This is what MUSIC TOGETHER is all about!

My assistant teacher was really enjoying our play along on Monday! 😂
We always have a free dance and free instrument play about half an hour into our class each week. Why? Research shows that kids benefit from time to experiment with the information they’ve been receiving all class long— so that wild instrument frenzy is both incredibly exciting and a really important part of the music learning experience for young kids! 🥁

Amazing! Our current collection features the song “Pawpaw Patch”, which is a huge favorite— I had no idea there were pawpaws at one of our favorite spots in Richmond! We’ll have to go check them out (and maybe find Susie!). Happy Pawpaw Day!

This weekend my helper joined me for a bit of a Music Together Songs and Skills workshop for teachers— a lovely event where teachers from around the world meet (in this case, virtually) to exchange ideas and tips for the songs in each collection. It got me really pumped for the FLUTE collection this fall, and then we had a wonderful first day of class on Monday! So excited for this semester— it’s not too late to join if you’re interested! 🎶

Last week all the kids were invited to bring a stuffy for a special stuffed-animal-themed class. We had a BLAST and I loved meeting everyone’s toys.
Big shoutout to these two lovely moms who volunteered to be the “tree” the little stuffies were sitting in when we sang “One Little Owl”. It cracked me up that in one class, Baby J helped mom be the tree, and in another, M couldn’t help but jump in the ”tree” to be with his mom! Love these sweet kiddos!

I still have spaces available for three families this summer for six weeks of Thursday morning classes (2 spaces available in my 9am class and 1 in my 10am)!
