Some students leave Midland College. Others take Midland College with them. πŸ’š

This is Luther Mbakwa.

Luther started his journey at Midland College as an Early College High School student. He became a math tutor at the Chap Success Center and built relationships with faculty who encouraged him to keep pursuing the things he cared about.

He specifically shared how Dr. Pat Kesavan, Dr. Terry Gilmour and Ben Malone made an impact on his time at MC. β€œWhen they recognized that I cared about certain things, they encouraged me to care about it.”

Today, Luther is a student at Harvard University. But even as he takes on this new chapter, he says Midland will always be part of his story. β€œI don’t want to ever cut ties or be done with making an impact here. No matter if I stick with medicine or if I go into law, I want to make sure regardless of what I do, I am paying homage to the community that made me.”

Luther may be studying miles away from Midland, but he hasn’t forgotten the community that helped shape him.

Midland College’s 2026 Licensed Vocational Nursing graduates are making us proud. Of the 24 students who graduated, the MC LVN Class of 2026 earned a 91.67% first-time NCLEX-PN pass rate, topping both the national and Texas averages. This class also embraced a strengthened curriculum developed by LVN faculty and program leadership, putting in the work and staying focused on the goal ahead.

Now, they’re taking that hard-earned knowledge and skill into our healthcare workforce, ready to care for patients and serve communities across our region. πŸ’šπŸ’› Congratulations to the MC LVN Class of 2026 and the faculty who helped them get there! πŸ‘

This week, Midland College hosted the Dual Credit Partner Leadership Convening! We got to spend time with the MC Dual Credit Leadership Team for a planning session, talk through data and hear directly from former dual credit students during a student panel.

They shared their personal experiences taking college classes while still in high school and how dual credit has impacted their lives. It was great to hear their stories and have them be part of the conversation about the future of dual credit across the Permian Basin.
