Lauren Dennis, EdD, who runs the PA Cyber Wilkes-Barre office, spoke at Wilkes University last week in a session titled "Building a Safe and Engaged Learning Environment Through Connection, Structure, and Student Voice." She discussed the following important topics:

📌 Adults set the tone for the classroom, so educators should know how to manage their own emotions.
📌 Students become engaged and motivated when they feel connected. We can achieve this by allowing students to choose their school and be heard in class. Volunteering in the community and meeting local dignitaries (e.g., police chief or mayor) also help.
📌 Educators must shift from punishment to understanding students who exhibit poor behavior.

“It was truly an honor to share at the breakout session," Lauren said. "Seeing educators engage, connect, and leave inspired reinforced the power of creating learning environments where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered. Educators have the power to not only transform classrooms but to also transform lives.”
