SAFETY PROTOCOL SPOTLIGHT: Please note this is an educational post.

In an emergency, clear communication is everything. That’s why Midland Public Schools uses the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) created by The "I Love U Guys" Foundation. This system gives our staff, students, and local first responders—like the Michigan State Police—a shared language during an incident. Over the next few weeks, we are breaking down these safety modes so you know exactly what they mean if you see them in a district update.

First up: Hold.

A "Hold" is used when hallways need to be kept clear. During a Hold, students and staff stay in their classrooms with the doors locked and continue with their normal daily lessons until an "All Clear" is given. It keeps our hallways empty so staff can manage a localized situation without interrupting the school day.

Taking learning to new heights (literally). 🪜🚒 Students in H.H. Dow High’s Engineering Capstone class are tackling ladder stability for their year-long research project. Before presenting their final designs to a panel of real-world engineers at the end of the year, they’re digging deep into how real-world problems get solved.

A huge thank you to Jacob Keister, Training and Safety Officer with the City of Midland Fire Department - Michigan, and his crew for stopping by to answer questions and demonstrate how firefighters keep things safe and stable. Our Chargers walked away with fantastic insights.

That’s what project-based learning—and great community partnership—is all about!

Next time you see your food service team, give them a shoutout! And tell us in the comments: what was your favorite school lunch growing up? (Square pizza fans, we know you’re out there.) 🍕

T-SHIRT FRIDAY: It's a special Chemic Homecoming edition of T-Shirt Friday, and we couldn't think of a better representation of Chemic Pride to share it with than our 2026 Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal, Don Blasy.

A proud 1961 graduate, Mr. Blasy has dedicated decades to Midland High athletics, coaching kickers and punters for 30 years, supporting Chemic baseball since 1982, and giving countless hours to our school and community. Her even scored the FIRST touchdown in Midland Stadium history! He and his family truly embody Chemic Pride, and we are so grateful to have him leading the way today.

Go Chemics! 💙💛

Happy Homecoming, Midland High! It's going to be a great night at Midland Community Stadium. 🏈

Before you grab your popcorn and find your seats tonight, make a quick pit stop at the main entrance. Our friends at MCTV will be set up and recording community messages from gate opening until 6:30 PM. Cheer on the team, give a shout-out to someone who made your week, or drop a little Friday night wisdom—your clip might be featured during the live broadcast!

Can't make it to the stadium? Catch all the live action on Charter Spectrum 189, U-verse 99, or stream online at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/MCTV.
