58 YEARS OF MARTIAL ARTS šŸ„‹

There is something very special about this picture.

Standing beside me are my two sisters. For 58 years, they have watched my journey in martial artsā€”from the beginning, through all the years of training, teaching, competing, building schools, and working with generations of students.

And through all those years, they have supported me.

Today, they are standing beside me as I hold my Hall of Fame certificate.

Awards and ranks are meaningful, but when I look at this photograph, I see something even greater: family, loyalty, perseverance, and 58 years of memories.

Martial arts has been a lifelong journey for me, and I am still on the floor teaching my students and passing forward what martial arts has given me.

At Angelā€™s Karate, students are not simply learning how to punch and kick. We work to develop discipline, confidence, respect, perseverance, and characterā€”lessons they can carry throughout their lives.

58 years later, Iā€™m still teaching.
Still learning.
Still grateful.
And still surrounded by family. šŸ„‹ā¤ļø

A very special day in my martial arts journey. šŸ„‹

For more than 50 years, I have remained connected to my instructor, Grandmaster James B.C. Yu, founder of the Tae Kwon Do Institute of America.

Grandmaster Martin Marcus and I are both proud students of Grandmaster B.C. Yu. We are honored to carry forward the knowledge, discipline, and values he has shared with us.

LOYALTY.

That word means even more to me today. In martial arts, we talk about technique, rank, discipline, and achievementā€”but loyalty to the people who helped shape our journey is something that should never be forgotten.

This was also a special day for Grandmaster Martin Marcus, receiving his 9th Degree Kukkiwon certificate and having it signed in the presence of Grandmaster B.C. Yu.

And then came another moment I wanted to remember: introducing our new patch and logo to the world together.

Three senior martial artists, each with a lifetime dedicated to the arts: Grandmaster B.C. Yu, 9th Degree; Grandmaster Martin Marcus, 9th Degree Kukkiwon; and myself, 10th Degree through the World Martial Arts College.

Different journeys, decades of experience, but together because of martial arts, friendship, and respect.

Ranks and certificates are important milestones, but the relationships we build along the way are worth even more.

After all these years, I am still learning, still teaching, still growingā€”and still grateful for the people who have walked this road with me.

Loyalty is not something you say.
It is something you live. šŸ„‹šŸ™

Getting ready for their First Degree Black Belt Test! šŸ„‹

Today I want to recognize and honor these three young martial artists, not only for where they are today, but for the years of training and participation that brought them here.

Their journey was not always easy. They continued their martial arts training through the COVID years, stayed committed, and kept moving forward. That kind of perseverance means something to me as their instructor.

They have grown up on the training floor, and today they are also honor students in middle school and high school, including the sophomore year.

A Black Belt is not something we simply give. It represents time, discipline, loyalty, respect, perseverance, and character.

I have watched these students grow, mature, and continue to challenge themselves year after year. Now they are preparing for their First Degree Black Belt Test.

I am very proud of themā€”not only for the martial artists they are becoming, but for the young men and woman they are becoming.

Years of training.
Years of commitment.
Through COVID and beyond.

Now, the next chapter begins. šŸ„‹šŸ™

Two women. Two different generations. One journey.

One is 38 years old. The other is 64.

Both are training, learning, competing, and preparing themselves for the goal of earning their First Degree Black Belt at Angelā€™s Karate.

Martial arts is not about how old you are. It is about continuing to show up, challenging yourself, and becoming better than you were yesterday.

I am very proud of both of these ladies and the example they are setting for everyone around them.

The Black Belt is coming ā€” but the journey is what makes it meaningful. šŸ„‹

At Angelā€™s Karate, I personally teach my classes.

I am Grandmaster Angel De Jesus, 10th Degree Black Belt, with a lifetime devoted to martial arts, and honored to have been inducted into Martial Arts Halls of Fame in both Puerto Rico and Michigan.

But when you walk through our doors, it isnā€™t about titles. It is about the student in front of me.

Children, teens, adults, beginners, and families are welcome. We teach confidence, discipline, focus, respect, and practical self-defense, while helping each student develop at their own pace.

Classes are by appointment and placement, allowing me to personally meet prospective students and determine where they will learn best.
