New shoes. New school year. A new future. 👟

In Haiti, schools require black shoes — no small thing for families stretching every dollar. Our co-founder Angie knows what a pair of black shoes means. She grew up in Cap-Haïtien, paid her own school fees working as a street merchant at fourteen, and wore second-hand white shoes polished black. When it rained, the polish ran — and she'd get in trouble. Until a friend gave her a real pair of black shoes.

On September 7, sixteen children started school in Cap-Haïtien with Haiti Child Thrive: tuition, uniform, books, a daily meal, and healthcare — all covered.

Fifteen seats are sponsored. Fifteen are still waiting.

$1,500 sponsors one child for a full year ($125/month).

Busy days in North Haiti. A lot of hot dusty bumpy roads going school to school paying tuitions, uniforms and supplies.

Yesterday we finished paying for student 15. While there, the school director told us about another student. Her foster parent had just been at her desk right ahead of us.

One of the brightest kids in the school. Orphaned. Very high scores on the government tests. Caregiver unable to pay.

We had enough with us to pay her arrears so she can start school this year. She is now student 16.

Photos here are some of the other students we are sponsoring this week. Not the new student, for privacy.

We need a sponsor to cover her school this year. 14 more to go.

Thank you for making it possible to say yes.

Update from Cap-Haïtien: 13 of 30 enrolled.

We came here to enroll 30 kids for school starting September 7. As of today, 13 are in.

We need help to get the rest there.

We have had over 75 requests for school assistance in the last two weeks. Families are lining up. The need is much bigger than our pilot.

Something beautiful is also happening: Some families are paying for uniforms and books themselves when they can. That sacrifice has stretched every donated dollar and allowed us to say yes to more kids than we thought possible.

This is what thriving looks like — families and HCTF partnering together.

But we still have 17 seats left to fund to reach our 30, and dozens of families still waiting.

One seat = one child for a full year:
• Tuition
• Uniform
• Books
• Daily meal
• Healthcare through Hôpital Sarepta

If you can help us close the gap:

Thank you for getting us to 13. Let's get to 30.

First week back in Haiti — and it's been full.

Angie and I have spent the week doing the real work: sitting with families, selecting students for the program, measuring feet, buying black shoes and uniforms.

That shoe part matters to Angie. She remembers polishing second-hand white shoes black to meet school requirements — until the rain washed the polish off. This week we bought real, new black shoes. No polish. No shame. Just kids ready for school.

Great progress:
✓ 10 founding seats fully funded — those 10 start September 7
✓ Family interviews and home visits underway (that's Angie in these photos)
✓ Uniforms and shoes being fitted and purchased

We still have 20 seats open for our pilot cohort of 30. Every seat sponsors one child for a full year — tuition, uniform, books, daily meal, and healthcare through Hôpital Sarepta.

If you'd like to help us fill the next 20:

8 DOWN. 22 TO GO

On September 1st, Angie and I get on a plane to Cap-Haïtien.

On October 1st, 30 kids walk into school for the first time with a uniform, books, meals, and healthcare.

As of this morning - 8 of those 30 chairs are filled. 22 are still empty. And I’m not leaving them empty.

Most of you know our story - in 2010 I began volunteering as a nurse at St. François de Salle Hospital. A woman cooked lunch outside every day to survive. Her daughter Darline played in the dirt next to her. Couldn’t afford school.

We paid her school fees. One year. Then another. Then another.

Today Darline is a REGISTERED NURSE in Cap-Haïtien.

That one girl became 30.

Angie knows this walk. She grew up in Cap-Haïtien and started selling in the street at 14 to pay her own school fees. Her uniform was donated and re-sewn by a neighbor. Her only shoes were white shoes she had to polish black - because school requires black shoes. Every time it rained, the polish ran.

Someone once gave her real black shoes. She never forgot it.

That’s what this is.
This isn’t “awareness.” This is receipts.
$15 = a FULL YEAR of healthcare for one child (locked via our 13-year hospital partner Sarepta)
$25 = one month of daily school meals
$1,500 = you sponsor ONE child for the entire year. Tuition + uniform + books + meals + healthcare.

No overhead theatre. We publish every line item. Tuition goes straight to the school.

We fly Sept 1 to finalize enrollment. School starts Oct 1. Every child sponsored between now and then is IN that pilot class on day one.

Angie and I are covering the flights, the ground work, all of it. Your gift goes to the kids.

If 22 people see this and say “I got one” - we are FULL before we land.

Can you take a chair?

For two weeks, we went quiet.

Here's why: I was tired.

Tired of paying tuition for sixteen years and watching brilliant Haitian kids graduate with nowhere to go. One student found a real career. One.

So we stopped. We rebuilt. And what we're coming back with is bigger than tuition checks.

We're building the jobs. Right there, in Cap-Haïtien. A Tech Center where our graduates don't just finish — they get hired.

Same kids. New ending.
