Middletown Adult Education is a cooperative adult education program administered by the Middletown Board of Education in cooperation with area boards of education. Middletown Adult Education serves Middletown, Cromwell, East Haddam/Moodus, East Hampton, Old Saybrook, Portland, Rocky Hill, Regional District #4 (Chester, Deep River, Essex, Centerbrook, Ivoryton), Regional District #13 (Durham, Middlefield, Rockfall) and Regional District #17 (Haddam, Higganum, Killingworth), Madison and Westbrook. Middletown Adult Education provides academic programs, early childhood classes, family education, job training, workplace education, enrichment classes, counseling, assessment services, and a new College and Career Center.

✍️ Seeing Writing in a Whole New Way!

Students in Cathy’s Creative Writing 1 class took part in a unique “Blind Experience” as part of their Descriptive Writing unit. For 20 minutes, students were blindfolded and challenged to complete a series of tasks throughout the classroom and hallway—relying on their other senses, communication, and creativity along the way.

Now, they’ll turn the experience into writing, reflecting on what they felt, heard, noticed, and learned. An activity like this helps students think beyond simply describing what they see and discover new ways to bring their writing to life. 👏📝

🌿📚 Find your calm at the Zen Den! 📚🌿

Our Zen Den is a welcoming space where MAE students can take a break, relax, recharge, and simply enjoy a little downtime. From calming activities and creative things to do to a quiet place to hang out, it’s a space designed with our students in mind. 💚

And tucked inside the Zen Den is our Phoenix Library! 🔥📖 A free resource where students can borrow books to enjoy at their own pace. The collection includes books generously donated by MAE staff and Russell Library.

Students are encouraged to share their reviews, recommend books, and request new authors or genres they’d love to see added to the collection!

At MAE, we believe learning happens in many ways—and sometimes, taking a moment to relax and recharge is just as important. ✨

❤️ Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
🌎 Celebrating Culture, Community & Heritage! 🎉

Middletown Adult Education was honored to participate in the Hispanic Cultural Lunch & Learn Celebration hosted by the City of Middletown, Connecticut Government

Our students and staff enjoyed a wonderful day filled with music, delicious food, culture, community, and learning. From the Mariachi performance to hearing from Meriden Chief of Police Mr. Rosado, it was a beautiful celebration of the many cultures and contributions that make our community so special. ❤️

📚✨ Celebrating Adult Education & Family Literacy Week! ✨📚

On Monday, September 14, Mayor Nocera presented Middletown Adult Education with a proclamation recognizing Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week, September 14–18, 2026.

We are proud to celebrate the incredible students, educators, and community partners who make adult education such an important part of our community. From earning a high school diploma or GED to learning English, building new skills, and reaching personal and career goals, it’s never too late to learn and grow! 🌟

A special thank you to Mayor Nocera for recognizing the impact of Adult Education in Middletown and for supporting our students and programs.

Teamwork makes the dream work! A special thank you to Empower Leadership for always coming to Middletown Adult Education, engaging with our students, and creating meaningful opportunities for them to build important skills, grow in confidence, and connect with one another. We truly appreciate your continued partnership and support!

Our students took part in an interactive group exercise during an Empower workshop, putting communication and collaboration into action. Activities like these encourage participants to listen to one another, work together, and discover the power of working as a team!

Another wonderful evening at MAE! 🌙✨ Thanks to the generous support of Middlesex United Way, we were able to host a special event just for our night students. Between great food and time to connect, it was a well-deserved evening of community and celebration for those who put in the extra effort after a long day. We’re so proud of our night learners!
