Photography instructor Josh Meier P’24,’28 recently spent two weeks as an artist-in-residence on a remote island above the Arctic Circle in Norway. No assignments, no deadlines—just time, a print studio, breathtaking landscapes, the company of fellow international artists, and the space to trust the process.

“You’re not here to make a masterpiece, you’re here to be in that creative process,” he says. “It’s about having thoughts and emotions and questions, and using the materials to answer those questions.”

He can’t wait to share what he learned with his students this fall.

It's not often we see the Dining Hall like this! Thanks to our incredible facilities team, it looks wonderful, but we love it so much more when it's filled with Saints. In a few short weeks, we'll be back to the daily sharing of meals and stories, and making new friends, at each table in this space.

You’ll likely hear them before you see them: the 40,000 bees that arrived on campus in May have grown to nearly 250,000 across our new colonies! Jason Crook of Bohemia Apiary stopped by recently for a checkup. “They’ll keep foraging and storing up resources to get through winter,” he says. “Their colony is so strong, they’ve already stored more honey than they need—enough for us to harvest some and still leave plenty for the bees.”

Curious Saints will have plenty to observe when they’re back on campus, from hive activity to the first taste of SAS-grown honey. 🍯🐝

Our student artists don’t just learn technique from a textbook—they learn it standing shoulder-to-shoulder with someone who’s doing the work as a practicing artist, like visual arts instructors Navanjali Kelsey and Charlese Phillips, who will both be showing in two exhibits next month.

Mrs. Kelsey’s vibrant watercolors, which take inspiration from her Indian heritage, and Mrs. Phillips’ multidisciplinary work—mediums like acrylic ink, woven fiber, pencil, and embellishments—will adorn the walls at The People’s Gallery at the Delaware Art Museum, and at the Rehoboth Art League’s 12th Regional Juried Biennial Exhibition.

Joining them at The People’s Gallery is recent graduate Kayley Rivera ‘26—once a St. Andrew’s visual arts student, now a fellow exhibiting artist.

Holly Austin '97 first learned to row right here, on Noxontown Pond—and went on to win the Peabody Cup with the SAS varsity eight at England's Henley Women's Regatta, and row the varsity heavyweight eight at Harvard for three years, where she became one of the first Harvard athletes to compete at four NCAA Championships. She went on to coach Harvard/Radcliffe to win the NCAA championship in 2003.

In 2016, she founded Ready Set Row and RSR Elite, now one of the country's top racing programs for competitive young rowers.

This week, she brought it full circle: back to the boathouse where it all began, this time with her own kids in tow, teaching a new generation of athletes to fall in love with the sport the way she did. Welcome home, Holly! This will always be your pond. 🚣‍♀️

Meet Valeri Wallace, our incoming Director of the Library!

She learned to read at 3. By kindergarten, she was the kid other classes brought in to read aloud. That love never really left—it just turned into a job title.

She's thrilled to join a community of fellow bookworms, and is already looking forward to getting to know the collection—and making sure it keeps evolving alongside the community it serves.

The Odyssey hits theaters today. Our community's been living its own version all summer—comfy chairs, weight room, porch, even an audiobook re-read on the road to Rhode Island. Reading however we can, as much as we can. Homer would approve.
