Being stopped by the police can be a scary situation for anyone. Think about how this level of anxiety is heightened for individuals that have Autism Spectrum Disorder.
According to “A 2019 study of autistic adults with few support needs found 53 percent of participants had four or more interactions with the police in their lifetime.
Many respondents said they had negative experiences, based primarily on lack of understanding of autism by the officer, according to respondents.”
This doesn’t have to happen. Stay tuned for how we are trying to promote Autism awareness amongst Law Enforcement professionals…

The holiday season should be full of laughter, love and family time.
It’s important to think about how the holidays effect individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Keep the following tips in mind to make sure that this time is enjoyable for everyone:
-Make sure that the food menu reflects everyone’s preferences and tastes. Also keep food allergies in mind
-There should be an opportunity to step away if all of the socializing becomes overwhelming for a person with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
-Try to keep a manageable schedule of events for everyone. For example, if there are some events that can be missed, allow for break time or alone time. Celebrations can be small and meaningful.
-Keep light and sound sensitivities in mind when planning your events.
