Hi Moms, happy Thursday ๐ Teaching toddlers to write has always been a big topic of interest to parents ๐ค So today, we have some tips that might be helpful in teaching your little ones how to write. These are:

Fine Motor Development, which controls the strength and coordination in the hands, is an important factor affecting childrenโs ability to write. Parents can encourage their toddlers to practice fine motor skills through some fun activities such as:
- Puzzle/ Busy Board
- Wooden lacing beads
- Building blocks
- Using utensils at meal times

Children will naturally want to try scribbling or copying letters and words if they are exposed to it regularly. Because of this, parents should help their kids become familiarized with letters, words, books and writing. This can be achieved through some fun activities, such as reading books together everyday or going to the library. It doesnโt have to be anything fancy, as long as they are enjoying themselves and having fun with language, writing would come naturally.

Get your little ones exposed to different types of writing tools such as crayons, chalk or pencil early on. They should be able to freely scribble, paint and explore the writing tools as they wish. Through this process, children can learn how to grasp, hold and use these writing tools. And maybe they will start copying down the letters and words they see too.

Itโs important to remember that kids grow at different paces. Some might be able to recognize letters early on and have a natural interest in letters and language, while others might prefer active play or some other types of activities. Thatโs completely fine! Thereโs no need to push it on them to start writing at an early age. Instead, parents can try incorporating language and writing into daily life. For example, if your kid loves animals, then reading a book about zoo animals with them before bedtime is a great idea.
