When you hold your baby close and look at a book together, your baby will enjoy the snuggling and hearing your voice as well as the story. Feeling safe and secure with you while looking at a book builds your baby's confidence and love of reading.

Babies love, and tend to function better on a routine. Especially if you’re setting up a sleep routine for your baby, reading is a great activity to include. Dimming the lights and reading aloud in a soothing voice helps set the mood for the baby to sleep. This is a great way to incorporate reading into the baby’s daily routine, and it will also serve as a bedtime cue which lets them know that it’s sleepy time.

It’s best to keep reading a fun and playful activity. Try not to take it too seriously! Fine Motor Development, which controls the strength and coordination in the hands, is an important factor affecting children’s ability to write. Parents can encourage their toddlers to practice fine motor skills through some fun activities such as:

- Building blocks
- Using utensils at meal times

There’s no need to push it on them to start writing at an early age. Instead, parents can try incorporating language and writing into daily life. For example, if your kid loves animals, then reading a book about zoo animals with them before bedtime is a great idea.
